AnnaLynne McCord: "90210" Lunch Lady

Building up quite the appetite while working the day away, AnnaLynne McCord was spotted picking up lunch on the set of "90210" in Hollywood on Monday (January 31). Looking her usual cheerful self, the Naomi Clark cutie donned a white jacket, skinny jeans and red heels as she toted her midday meal en route to her trailer. The on-set sighting comes as fans can look forward to an all-new installment of "90210" airing on The CW tonight (January 31) at 8/7c. Titled "It's Getting Hot In Here," a synopsis via the show's website reads: "Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord), Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes), Silver (Jessica Stroup) and Annie (Shenae Grimes) decide to have a girls' weekend and head to a yoga retreat in Ojai. Annie attempts to be a good cousin and invites Emily (guest star Abbie Cobb, "Jonas") along for the weekend but confronts her about being a downer on the trip. Emily purposefully neglects to wake Annie up for a sweat lodge session and uses the opportunity to turn the girls against Annie. Naomi, who originally thinks the retreat is silly, suddenly decides to extend her stay. Silver runs into Navid (Michael Steger), and the two have a secret rendezvous. Adrianna returns from the retreat and calls a tabloid to sell an exclusive story. Meanwhile, Debbie (Lori Loughlin) plans a romantic dinner for Ryan (Ryan Eggold), but they are interrupted by Dixon (Tristan Wilds), forcing Ryan to quickly find a place to hide. Mindless Behavior Say Touring With Justin Bieber Was 'Crazy'

The rising quartet, which includes 13- and 14-year-old Philadelphia and Los Angeles natives Prodigy, Roc Royal, Princeton and Ray Ray, hit the road with Justin Bieber in December. When they stopped by the MTV News offices on Friday, they dished that opening up for the teen superstar meant rocking the stage for thousands while grappling with the Biebs' hard-core fanbase. "It was crazy," plaited singer Ray Ray admitted. "He has a lot of fans." Fellow Mindless singer Princeton — who fans may remember as that cute krumpin' kid from Gym Class Heroes' 2006 video for "Cupid's Chokehold/ Breakfast in America" — added that in addition to dodging legions of Beliebers, the boys had to bring it in massive arenas. "Every night, 15,000 fans," the curly haired crooner said, adding that the teen crew used the adrenaline to pump up their performances. "It made us nervous, but the minute we hit that stage — and the stage is big, by the way, like really big — but the minute we hit that stage the nerves just turned into great energy." Getting face time with concertgoers also helped to ease their nerves. "Before the show we always did meet-and-greets, so the fans were really nice and very supportive," Princeton explained. With their peppy text-friendly jam "My Girl" gaining traction and their status as budding heartthrobs blossoming, the Mindless fellas got some tips from Bieber on how to handle their growing fame. Rapper Roc Royal said the "Baby" singer was really cool about doling out pop-star guidance. "Bieber, he's a great dude. He gave us advice backstage. He's nice," Roc said. "He told us don't be nervous because it's just fans, and you love it." Roc added that Bieber was always down for a laugh — even if it came at the expense of the Mindless guys' eardrums. " favorite moments when Bieber came into our room and we start playing," he smiled, recalling an instance in which the pop megastar barged into their rooms blasting an ear-shattering horn. "Like, he starts blowing the whistles in our rooms. like, 'Aw, man stop!' "He came in on a Segway, and he was like . We were like, 'Ah!' " Roc continued. "Definitely those moments when we were backstage and we were in our sweats just having fun." Pop-star mentorship aside, the boys insist that Bieber isn't going to get away with the reckless whistle-blowing. Ray Ray joked that the guys might just turn the intense energy of Bieber's fans against him. "We gonna put fans backstage so when he comes he gets attacked," he laughed. Charlie Sheen's In-Home Rehab Plan

Diverting from the typical treatment methods, Charlie Sheen has put together a rehab plan to suit his desire to receive care at his Hollywood home. The "Two and a Half" men star decided to seek help after being released from Cedars Sinai on Friday following a hernia resulting from two days of nonstop partying. Of the plan to be administered at-home care, a source said, "He's getting treatment done at home. He's doing rehab there." Meanwhile, Sheen's rep is hoping to keep details under wraps, saying, "In compliance with the national health privacy laws (HIPPA), no further information relating to Charlie Sheen's health or his rehab experience will be released without his written permission. Halle Berry Backs Out Of 'New Year's Eve' Due To Custody Battle

Hours later, Berry's rep told People magazine that the Oscar winner's departure is due to Berry's upcoming custody battle with model ex Gabriel Aubry over their 2-year-old daughter, Nahla. "Halle has serious concerns for her daughter's well-being while in the care of her father for any extended period of time and is prepared to take all necessary steps to protect her," her rep told the magazine. "She has attempted to resolve these custody issues amicably with her daughter's father, Gabriel Aubry, directly, but given his lack of cooperation, Halle has no choice but to seek swift judicial intervention." Berry's rep did not divulge what prompted the dispute, only that the "Frankie and Alice" actress is concerned for Nahla's well-being. "Halle has always made the needs and safety of her daughter her first priority," the rep added. "Both while Halle and Gabriel were a couple and since their breakup, Halle has only acted in her daughter's best interest." Berry and Aubry met at a Versace event in 2006 and were together for four years before splitting in April 2010. Both have seemingly moved on, with Berry reportedly dating "Dark Tide" co-star Olivier Martinez and Aubry rumored to be seeing Kim Kardashian back in the fall. Justin Bieber Debuts New 'Never Say Never' Poster

Teen sensation is shown between his Canadian hometown and the big city in movie poster.By Kara Warner The "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never" movie poster Photo: Paramount Pictures As most of Justin Bieber's die-hard fans already know, the movie event of February is quickly approaching. Bieber's first full-length feature film, "Never Say Never," hits theaters in about three weeks, on February 11, just in time for Valentine's Day weekend. MTV News has been keeping up with the Biebs since he announced plans for the big-screen project back in August. On Monday (January 24), Paramount Pictures released a new poster for the film, which shows the 16-year-old standing tall in the middle of a street, seemingly stuck between two worlds — on the left side is his hometown of Stratford in Ontario, Canada, which is shown in black-and-white, with a sign in the background that reads "Population: 32,000"; on the right side, Bieber is standing next to the crowded New York City skyline, which is depicted in full color. The "Baby" singer is shown dressed in all black, including a black jacket that zips up off-center, black jeans and black, unlaced high-tops. The tagline reads: "Find out what's possible if you never give up." It's a nice change from the first poster, which just showed Bieber's profile and that famous, perfectly side-swept hair, partially hidden by a hoodie. It's interesting that the "big city" shown in the new poster is New York City, however, rather than Atlanta, where Bieber moved when he was just starting out after signing with manager Scooter Braun and linking up with ATL superstar Usher. Also worth noting are two new clips and partial trailers from the movie, called "Every Stage" and "Underdog," respectively. Both clips show a few adorable home videos of Bieber learning to play the drums around age 3, followed by shots of what his life is like now, including screaming fans, huge sold-out concerts, his friendship with Usher, etc. What do you think of the new poster and videos? Justin Bieber's Never Say Never - The Remixes Due Valentine's Day

Come February 14, the pop megastar will release Never Say Never - The Remixes, the musical counterpart to "Never Say Never," his feature-film debut. As teased a few weeks ago, the limited-edition CD will feature a brand-new track and remixed tunes with features from Rascal Flatts, Chris Brown and more. The seven-track CD, which includes a 12-panel official movie-poster foldout, begins with his Jaden Smith-assisted "Never Say Never." In addition to the film's trailer theme song, the project also features remixed collaborations with Rascal Flatts ("That Should Be Me") and Brown ("Up") and a live duet with Miley Cyrus ("Overboard"). The disc also includes the new Diane Warren-penned track "Born to Be Somebody." Fans can begin to pre-order the limited-edition CD for $9.99 on the Biebster's official online store. The cover art for Bieber's remix project is the same photo featured on the 16-year-old's first movie poster for "Never Say Never," which he unveiled via a Twitter puzzle in October. In a dark varsity jacket, Bieber offers a side profile in front of a white backdrop. The 3-D movie hits theaters nationwide on February 11. The singer's manager, Scooter Braun, hinted about some star-studded collaborations during a recent online fan chat. "Yes, Justin is working on new music," he said. "He's been talking to Drake about new music. and Kanye had a call today about a song they're trying to work on together. Kanye wants to produce a bunch of new songs for the new album. They're all starring (or in talks to star) in the latest round of remakes of beloved films and TV shows coming down the pike. On Thursday, news broke that Beyoncé would be starring in a Clint Eastwood-directed remake of the 1976 Barbra Streisand classic "A Star Is Born" (which was a remake of a 1954 movie that remade a 1937 film). In the meantime, Will Smith is reportedly petitioning Sony to remake "Annie" (the 1982 movie and 1977 musical) starring his 10-year-old daughter, Willow, best known for whipping her hair. In October it was announced that Leonardo DiCaprio and best bud Tobey Maguire would be starring in Baz Luhrmann's 3-D retelling of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel "The Great Gatsby," with Carey Mulligan joining as Daisy Buchanan. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have been working on bringing the '80s Johnny Depp-starring television series "21 Jump Street" to the big screen since 2008, and they might even get Depp to cameo in it in time for the film's March 16, 2012, release date. And let's not forget the long hunt for a Ren McCormack (the character Kevin Bacon made famous in 1984), after Zac Efron and Chace Crawford dropped out of the planned "Footloose" remake that finally landed dancer Kenny Wormald the role of his life. Then there's "Arthur," the Russell Brand-starring remake of the 1981 screwball comedy about a happily drunk millionaire who risks everything for love. The film has tapped everyone from Helen Mirren to Greta Gerwig and Nick Nolte. Two recently announced remakes are "Lethal Weapon" and "The Wizard of Oz," which are still in early development and without stars attached. Warner Bros. announced their plans to reboot the Mel Gibson-starring franchise on Thursday and tapped writer Will Beall to pen the script with completely new characters. And director Robert Zemeckis announced back in November that he planned on remaking the 1939 Technicolor classic using the script from the original film, with Warner Bros. hoping Robert Downey Jr. will play Oz. Just this past year, films from "Clash of the Titans" to "The Karate Kid" to "A Nightmare on Elm Street" were remade for the big screen and were well-received by audiences. "Alice in Wonderland" and "Clash of the Titans" went on to become two of the top 10 highest-grossing films of 2010, while "Piranha 3D" and "The A-Team" also went on to strong successes, proving that there definitely is a market for these kinds of remakes. Nicki Minaj Feared Her Dad Would Kill Her Mom

Nicki Minaj may be the reigning queen of hip-hop, but it hasn't been an easy journey for the fashion-forward MC. In a recent interview with U.K. newspaper The Sun, 26-year-old Minaj opened up about her troubled upbringing. "All of my young and teenage early years we lived in fear that my mother would be killed by my father," she said. "It was ridiculous. It made me act out to guys and be evil to them when I was growing up." The Trinidad and Tobago-born singer moved to New York when she was 5 and credits growing up in the city and living in fear of her father for making her so independent. "It made me tough," she admitted. "Of course it did. I am an emotional person, but I am a tough person. It was very tough emotionally for me to have a parent who was an alcoholic and a drug addict. I had a mum with no money." Minaj said her family "didn't really have many options" and felt "helpless," something she described as "the worst feeling." The wig-wearing, flamboyantly dressed star summed up her father as being "violent -- physically and verbally" and credits her older brother for "(becoming) the man of the house and (standing) up to my father." "(My mother) didn't cut ties when I felt like she should have done," the perfectly poised rapper said. "That's been my whole thing. I've been able to say, 'This isn't working any more. You need to get out of my life.' I keep it moving and it has worked.'" Despite her tough childhood, Minaj doesn't take things too seriously. Andre 3000 Pops Up On Ke$ha's 'Sleazy' Remix

On Friday (January 14), a remix of Ke$ha's Cannibal track "Sleazy" hit the Web, outfitted with some brand-new bars from the elusive Outkast MC. The southern spitter uses the revamp to muse about a young kid dealing with a deadbeat dad over the song's bouncy thump. "We start out so cute in our baby pictures/ That mama shot for our daddy so that he wouldn't forget you/ He forgot anyway, but hey, one day he'll remember/ If not, he's human, I'm human, you human, we'll forgive him," he spits. After sounding off about daddy issues, Stacks then rhymes about his playful relationship with the glitter-friendly poptress. "I call her Keisha, she like it because it's hood to her/ She call me Andre 6000 because I'm good to her," he says. The remix follows a slew of random guest appearances on records by everyone from DJ Unk to Rich Boy as fans await another full-length release from 'Dre. Back in 2008, the Love Below lyricist broke down his affinity for jumping on the occasional remix to MTV News, explaining that cooking up another quality solo record is no easy task. "I've been doing remixes here and there, and let me tell you, thank God for remixes. I wanna tell everybody who's been checking out the remixes and things like the John Legend song : In this day and age, those are the things that have kind of been keeping me alive. Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Leads New Era Of Outcast Anthems

Taking cues from Frank Zappa, the Ramones and Nirvana, Gaga carries the torch for the outsider in pop music.By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images In the 1970s, when disco was in full swing and rock and roll was posturing its way into arenas, four goony, glue-sniffing kids in Forest Hills, Queens, threw on leather jackets and began bashing out two-minute tunes with titles like "Blitzkrieg Bop" and "Beat on the Brat." They called themselves the Ramones, and not only were they probably the first punk band on planet Earth, but they were most definitely outcasts, in every sense of the world. Of course, the Ramones certainly weren't the first musical outcasts. Theirs is a legacy that reaches all the way back to the dawn of recorded music, from the likes of the Hoosier Hot Shots and Slim Galliard, scatting madman Cab Calloway and the "shocking" Screamin' Jay Hawkins, to midcentury curios like bizarro bandleader Spike Jones, deep-fried '60s oddballs like Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart and even contemporaries like the Cramps and the Talking Heads. But unlike any who came before them, the Ramones helped usher in an era — and a genre — in which being odd was championed. It would continue through the 1980s, thanks to the Heads, West Coast punk acts like Black Flag and the Minutemen, and college-radio darlings like R.E.M. — and, of course, the eternally outcast world of heavy metal — then truly break through in the '90s, with the chart-topping success of Nirvana, Pearl Jam and the Smashing Pumpkins, and the rise of hip-hop outfits like the Wu-Tang Clan, the Pharcyde and the incomparable Kool Keith. Of course, in the 2000s, things sort of petered out. Rock and hip hop became increasingly lunkheaded and lumbering, and the meek were shoved from the spotlight. And it bears mention that, even during the outcast heyday, for the most part, established acts — i.e., anyone who had plenty to lose — stayed as far removed from the fringe as possible, or if they dared stray outside their lane, they suffered the consequences (the classic example being, of course, Madonna, who nearly submarined her entire career with the simultaneous release of the Erotica album and its accompaniment, the coffee-table book "Sex"). There's a reason it's called "popular" music, after all. These days, however, things appear to be changing. For the first time, established pop megastars are embracing those on the fringes of society — and finding success in the process. It all started, appropriately enough, with the rise of Lady Gaga, who made no bones about the fact that her earliest support came from the gay community, and over the past year, through videos like "Alejandro" and her campaign against "don't ask, don't tell," she has become the outcast icon of our time. Others followed suit — like Pink, who scored hits with underdog anthems like "Raise Your Glass" and "F***** Perfect"; Ke$ha, whose "We R Who We R" went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100; and even Katy Perry, who dedicated her "Firework" video to the "It Gets Better" campaign — and it truly seems that, for the first time since the 1990s, being an outcast was not only acceptable, it was downright mainstream. Now, Gaga is poised to return with "Born This Way," the first single from her album of the same name. On Thursday, she released the song's lyrics, and if it's not already the biggest outcast anthem of all time, well, then it probably will be very soon. In fact, there's nary an outsider group Gaga doesn't mention in the song — gays, bisexuals, transgenders, ethnic minorities, the disabled, the bullied, the poor — which makes it, and its near-inevitable chart success, incredibly noteworthy. After all, here is Lady Gaga, currently the biggest artist on the planet, releasing a song that not only calls for acceptance of all people, but drags those who aim to oppress directly into the center of the ring. It is not only fierce, it's downright fearless. Gaga has plenty to lose, but she couldn't care less. And perhaps "Born This Way" is just the byproduct of the era in which we live, a time when social mores are constantly debated, when boundaries are being expanded and contracted, almost daily, and when it truly seems possible that maybe — just maybe — the outcasts could inherit the earth. After all, Bill Gates was an outcast, Barack Obama was too — and look how things worked out for them. And while this may put the fear of God in some folks, it seems that change is inevitable, and, as it is wont to do, pop music is there to provide the soundtrack to all of that change. Just like in the 1960s, when the biggest rock and folk acts of the day led the charge for social rebellion, so too may Lady Gaga. And she'll do it on the biggest stage imaginable. Britney Spears' 'Hold It Against Me' Tops Billboard Digital Songs Chart

Single debuts at #1 and breaks Taylor Swift's previous sales record.By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" Photo: Jive Don't hold it against her, but Britney Spears has a hit on her hands. Her new track, "Hold It Against Me," which was released last week, topped the Billboard Digital Songs chart. The Dr.Luke/ Max Martin-produced song, the lead single from the singer's yet-untitled March album, sold 411,000 downloads in its first week available for purchase. The debut also means that Spears broke a record. According to Billboard, that is Spears' best sales week for a digital song as well as the largest debut for a woman as a lead artist. She beat out the record previously held by Taylor Swift. In February, Swift's "Today Was a Fairytale" sold 325,000 downloads; incidentally, Swift broke the record previously held by Spears when that track debuted at the top of the charts. Spears bumps Bruno Mars' "Grenade" to #2; Wiz Khalifa moved up the chart to #3 with "Black and Yellow," followed by Katy Perry's "Firework," which dropped two spots to #4. Other newcomers to the chart include Avril Lavigne's "What the Hell" at #6 and Jay-Z and Kanye West's collaboration, "H.A.M.," at #10. Enrique Iglesias' "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)" (#5), the Black Eyed Peas' "The Time (Dirty Bit)" (#7), Lil Wayne's "6 Foot 7 Foot" (#8) and Ke$ha's "We R Who We R" (#9) round out the top 10. Spears is also the top seller on iTunes. Last week, when the song was released, Spears immediately jumped to the top of the iTunes charts in 16 countries. Ronald Isley, Anita Baker Honored At Soul Train Awards

Fresh attempts to teach CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer how to do the Dougie. It was that kind of night at the 2010 Soul Train Awards, as rookies, veterans and legends came together in Atlanta for the second annual event — which was taped November 10 and aired Sunday night on BET. The show, hosted once again by Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, featured a night of performances from some of the biggest names in soul and R&B. Host Howard told MTV News that the show is meant to be an extension of the long-running and legendary '70s TV series that brought soul, disco, R&B and rap stars into viewers' living rooms. "It reminds me of the advancement black people have made over the years because 'Soul Train' really was the beginning of that Black Power movement when we could actually see ourselves — and to have an awards show based upon that 'Soul Train' — it's headed somewhere," Howard said. "We have a black president now. The country seems to be more tolerant towards the diversity inside of it so it seems like the train is moving well down the tracks." The awards show marked the 40th anniversary of the classic music showcase hosted by Don Cornelius, and celebrated the careers of Baker and Isley, while handing out trophies to such contemporary stars as B.o.B (Song of the Year for "Nothing on You"), Melanie Fiona (Best New Artist), Eminem and Rihanna (Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year for "Love the Way You Lie"), Usher (Album of the Year for Raymond vs. Raymond) and Alicia Keys (Record of the Year for "Unthinkable " and Best Female R&B Soul Artist). Though top winners such as Trey Songz, Usher, Ciara, Eminem and Rihanna were not in the house, Blitzer graciously agreed to accept Slim Shady's award for him, joking, "Who better to accept this award on behalf of Eminem ... I know he's thrilled." Weaving through a series of skits involving magic tricks and jovial bickering by the hosts, the performance-heavy program delivered on talent. R. Kelly opened by teasing the crowd with his classic "Bump n' Grind," then diving into his new single "When a Woman Loves" — transforming the song from a slow jam into an all-out '50s rock-and-roll epic. Ne-Yo kept the show moving with a showcase of his singles from this year, including "Champagne Life" and "One in a Million." The tribute to Baker featured an all-star cast, with artists like Chrisette Michele, Goapele, Lalah Hathaway, Dionne Farris, Kem, Tamia, Faith Evans and El DeBarge covering a medley of the singer's greatest hits. Baker told the crowd that the biggest honor of the night for her was that real musicians were performing live with an actual band. "It's amazing because you've got children behind you singing 'Rapture' — it's lovely," she said, adding, "Let's do it again!" Ronald Isley, co-founder and lead singer of the Isley Brothers, also received a special homage that featured Jeffrey Osborne, Freddy Jackson, DeBarge, Tank, Eric Benet, Bilal and Peabo Bryson. Isley also came out to perform his own medley of hits and was joined onstage by Chanté Moore and R. Kelly for a rendition of "Contagious," their 2002 single that featured the Isleys. In addition, Cee Lo Green closed the show with a duet on the Isleys' classic 1959 hit, "Shout." Among the event's other highlights was Cee Lo's performance of his smash "Forget You," which took place on a golden stage that resembled a cross between Kanye's Egyptian fusion and an OK Go video, and found the singer gliding down conveyor belts while belting his number. Erykah Badu delivered a stripped-down version of her 2010 breakout "Window Seat" that featured the singer perched on the floor over a web of lights while appearing to orchestrate the vibrations of light flickers with her hands. Soul singer Eric Benet performed "Sometimes a Cry" — a song that Lil Wayne cited as one of his favorites while in prison — bringing down the house with a soaring falsetto that bested his studio rendition of the track. The evening's other performers included Bruno Mars, who sang his new hit "Grenade," and Jazmine Sullivan, who did a medley of "10 Seconds" and "Holding You Down (Goin' in Circles)." Lil Wayne 'Like Kobe Bryant' On Carter IV, David Banner Says

David Banner, who put his production touch on Weezy's Carter III cut "La La," recently gave an update to XXL about Wayne's progress on his ninth studio album, and compared the MC's drive to that of one of the NBA's most successful players. "Wayne is like Kobe Bryant right now," said Banner, who Young Money authority Mack Maine said will contribute to Carter IV. "You know, as Kobe gets older all he cares about is championships. Wayne is in that zone." Wayne is certainly making up for lost time since his eight-month prison bid. "The overall wittiness is everything I was saying about 'A Milli' when it came to be," Bang explained to MTV News in December. "He freestyled 'A Milli,' and before it was big and before we knew what it was gonna do, we all had our opinions of it. A lot of people loved it, but me being the creator of the art, I didn't see the vision that he had. I think he attacked it as a mixtape. And that was the genius of what he did and it became the biggest thing. The way he approached this one, was everything that I wanted him to do on 'A Milli.' Anthony Hopkins On 'The Rite': 'I Know How To Scare People'

The obvious, most-famous example is his award-winning turn as Dr. Hannibal Lecter in "Silence of the Lambs" and the subsequent sequels. It's been awhile since we've seen Sir Hopkins play dark and devious, but with the release of exorcism thriller "The Rite" on Friday (January 28), fans can reacquaint themselves with a bit of Hopkins' tricks and treats. In the film, which is based on real-life events, Hopkins plays unorthodox exorcist Father Lucas. Without delving into spoiler territory — no more than what the creepy promotional posters give away — when MTV News caught up with the actor recently, we asked him to take us through his process of playing possessed. Hopkins explained that most of his performances come from extensive preparation. For "The Rite," he learned Latin and Italian for certain scenes, and spent a lot of time alone in his hotel room going over the script. "I would be there in my den, my man's cave, going over and over script," Hopkins said. "Gradually, as you go through it over and over, all these voices and interpretations come to you," he explained, adding that by the time he was ready to film the key possession sequences, he knew the material so well he was open to improvisation. "I put all kinds of very suggestive sexual stuff into it which they cut out, but stuff that would provoke people. I knew that the response was good because Mikael Håfström's said, 'You're crazy.' " Hopkins went on to say, with a smile, that he just knows how to "get people." "I know how to do those parts," he said. "Not because I'm scary, but because I know how to scare people. ... It's a question of being quiet and not overplaying it," he explained. "You let the script and the audiences do the work for you. You don't have to play evil." Michael Jackson Doctor Ordered Hundreds Of Bottles Of Propofol

Brown/ Getty Images One thing became clear during testimony in the preliminary hearing of Dr. Conrad Murray on Monday (January 10) in Los Angeles: The cardiologist ordered a lot of the powerful anesthetic propofol in the months before his client Michael Jackson's death. Los Angeles County Coroner's officials determined that the pop star died of a lethal dose of the surgical anesthetic in June 2009. Jackson's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, has admitted that he administered propofol to the singer in the hours before Jackson's passing. And while Murray's lawyers have said that their client did not do anything that "should have" caused Jackson's death and may be preparing a defense in which they will claim that it was Jackson himself that administered the fatal dose, during continuing testimony in the second week of Murray's pretrial hearing on involuntary manslaughter charges, it became clear that there was plenty of propofol around. According to TMZ, pharmacist Tim Lopez of Las Vegas Applied Pharmacy Services — Murray has offices and a home in Las Vegas — testified that Murray ordered more than 250 vials of propofol in the two months before Jackson's death. The drug is intended for use in a clinical setting during surgery where equipment is on hand to monitor blood pressure and oxygen levels. Investigators executed search warrants on Murray's Las Vegas home and office, as well as Applied Pharmacy, in summer 2009 in search of evidence connected to an investigation into Jackson's death. The coroner's investigation reported that 12 vials of propofol were found in the bedroom and closet of Jackson's rented mansion after his death, and last week, one of the singer's bodyguards testified that in the moments before a 911 call was placed, Murray asked him to help put medical evidence in a bag, including vials that appeared to contain a milky substance that resembled propofol. Jackson, a chronic insomniac, allegedly used propofol as a sleep aid, and according to Lopez's testimony, from the time Murray came onboard as Jackson's physician in April until the singer's death, the doctor ordered 130 vials of propofol in 100-millileter doses and another 125 in 20-millileter vials, as well as more than 40 vials of the sedative Versed and the anti-anxiety drug Ativan, which, like the propofol, was sent to Murray's girlfriend's home in Santa Monica, California, where he was staying while caring for Jackson. According to The Associated Press, Murray told Lopez the Santa Monica address was for one of the doctor's clinics. Also on Monday, the judge in the case, Michael Pastor, ruled that recently obtained data from Murray's iPhone can be admitted as evidence in the case. The evidence reportedly includes a handful of voicemails and 12 screenshots. The AP reported that a retired federal investigator testified on Monday that he retrieved e-mail from Murray's cell phone that included an exchange between the doctor and a London insurance broker who was handling the policy for Jackson's planned series of "This Is It" comeback shows. On the morning of Jackson's death, the broker asked Murray to respond to reports that the 50-year-old singer was in poor health. "As far as the statements of his health published by the press, let me say they're all malicious to the best of my knowledge," Murray replied. So far, prosecutors have used phone records and testimony from police and Murray's current and former girlfriends to create a timeline that shows that the doctor was on the phone throughout the morning of Jackson's death, including the time after he administered the last of several doses that morning of propofol to the pop star. Previous testimony has focused on Murray's botched attempts to deliver CPR to Jackson, the delay in calling 911 and the belief by paramedics that the "Thriller" singer was already dead when they transported him to a local hospital. The preliminary hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to bring Murray to trial is expected to last around two weeks. Murray has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of involuntary manslaughter, which could land him in prison for up to four years. 'Glee' Stars Stayed Up All Night For 'Thriller' Cover

On Tuesday, the cast spoke to "Access Hollywood" about remaking the iconic tune, which will reportedly be mashed up with another yet-to-be-revealed hit. "It was a huge production. We we're shooting that until 6:30 in the morning," Cory Monteith told "AH" at the Television Critics Association press tour. "We shot all night, and it was probably one of the most physical numbers that we've ever done. I was lifting Naya Rivera at one point in the dance. It was really active. We had the whole USC band wrapped in to this number as you can see in the photos. It was awesome." Photos of the cast filming "Thriller" surfaced on the Internet recently, depicting a prom night-turned-zombie affair. Jackson's tune is just one of the many hits to be covered in the broadcast. Other songs featured in the post-Super Bowl episode include hits by the Black Eyed Peas, Katy Perry and Lady Antebellum. Kevin McHale revealed that Jackson is his "favorite artist ever" and that he has been continuously requesting to cover a tune by the late King of Pop. "I've been pushing very obnoxiously for a very, very long time, so I'm beyond thrilled that we do Michael Jackson," said the actor. Like the iconic music video, the "Glee" cover was an extravagant production, which was fitting for star Dianna Agron, who couldn't help smile throughout filming. "The whole night, everybody kept saying, 'Why are you laughing so much? Why are you smiling so much?' " she said. "I was just in my element. I was in huge makeup, huge hair, huge costume, the stuff that I loved the most, which is why I loved 'Rocky ' so much." Matthew Morrison isn't in the number, but he watched it being shot. "We actually shot it, like, a couple nights ago," Morrison told "AH." "I actually went out to see it. We shot it in Long Beach and at a high school that we used their football field at. It was stunning. It's so weird with this show. We keep outdoing ourselves. It's like, 'What is there left to do?' This number is just fantastic." Lady Gaga Premieres Born This Way Short Film

Film, starring 'Zombie Boy,' features remixed song and footage from Thierry Mugler fashion show.By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga (file) Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images The world may at last have a first glimpse of what Gaga has up her sleeve for Born This Way, thanks to a short film made for designer Thierry Mugler. The film, directed by fashion photographer Mariano Vivanco, is set to the remixed song that Gaga debuted at the Mugler menswear show in Paris on Wednesday. The black-and-white video, which premiered on Stylist.com and Mugler.com on Thursday (January 20), features Canadian model Rick Genest, also known as Zombie Boy, whose body and face are tattooed to look like a skeleton. It opens with voiceover of Gaga saying, "I don't speak German, but I can if you like," as the camera focuses on Zombie Boy, rocking a studded helmet. Footage of Zombie Boy is edited together with models walking the catwalk in Mugler designs. Zombie Boy mugs for the camera wearing a leather jacket and pearls while Gaga sings in German, "I'm absolutely clear/ As long as I'm a monster/ I wish we all could be blind/ It would be easier out there." She repeats the phrase and the beat plays low under her anthem. There is very little pop in the dark, subversive club jam, reminiscent of a '90s club track. The vibe of the video is an extension of her equally fashionable clip for "Alejandro," which was styled by Nicola Formichetti, who happens to be the creative director of Thierry Mugler. Zombie Boy is later seen walking in a city, wearing street clothes, as Gaga sings in English, "I'll take you out tonight/ Say whatever you like," accompanied by a pulsing beat. The video closes with a model walking down the runway as the song fades out. Gaga remixed the song herself for the show. "I love him, my friend the genius, my collaborator, more more than any piece of clothing or closet I possess," she said of Formichetti in a statement about the show. "But don't tell him I said that, he'll die. He picked them all out." David Guetta And Rihanna Go 'Retro Futuristic' In 'Who's That Chick?' Video

(there will be a "Night" version too) dropped this week, and in it, fans are treated to Guetta flexing some space muscle and RiRi frolicking in a world featuring virtually every color of the spectrum. A "Who's That Chick?" video that leaked online last year was initially cut by music-video director Jonas Åkerlund with a Doritos commercial project in mind. The song, which was produced by Guetta, never made it onto Rihanna's Loud album, but the French dance-music star made the track his own and, with some shoot additions, not one, but two videos will see the light of day. The video starts off with Guetta coming out of a cryogenic container aboard a vessel somewhere in deep space, and Rihanna and her friends are seen in monitors throughout the ship. Is she a human or an alien on another planet? It's difficult to tell. But the majority of the video plays out between these two sets: Guetta aboard his ship and Rihanna in her candyland, wherever that may be. The clip shows Guetta mixing some songs and even getting his gym on with some chin-ups and kickboxing, but clearly his thoughts are with Rihanna. RiRi's set is pure Åkerlund comic book fantasy, with color palettes and set pieces reminiscent of Lady Gaga's "Telephone" video. Rihanna and her friends are dressed in matching hyper-color attire and are wrapped up in their dance party. The video ends with DG throwing the spaceship into "warp speed," presumably to meet this girl he can no longer live without. The video has a "Star Trek" feel, and Guetta's scenes were actually filmed in a former "Trek" studio. "I'm DJing from a spaceship," Guetta recently told MTV News. "It's actually really funny, because we shot that in Los Angeles in a place where the used to shoot 'Star Trek,' but like the old ones. And so it's kind of retro futuristic, you know? SAG Awards Seating Chart: Where 'Glee' Sits Next To 'True Grit'

For Sunday's awards show, producer explains science behind celebrity seating.By Kelly Marino SAG Awards producer Kathy Connell Photo: MTV News LOS ANGELES — The Screen Actors Guild Awards are coming up on Sunday, and preparations are already well under way at the Shrine Auditorium. The stage is coming together, the list of presenters is close to being finalized and, most importantly, the seating arrangements are being mapped out. "It depends on the size of the cast," SAG Awards producer Kathy Connell explained when MTV News asked how the seating chart is determined. "It also depends on if they were here the year before. If the TV cast was down front, we are probably going to put them further back this year. We also try to be democratic between film and TV." The ceremony will take place in an intimate dinner setting where both film and TV actors will be seated next to their peers. Throughout the show, the celebrities can nosh on food provided by Lucques Catering and sip on Dry Creek wine and Taittinger Champagne while they celebrate one another's work. The Guild seats the film casts next to the TV casts in order to allow everyone to visit and mingle in between acts. For example, the first few tables located in the front of the venue have place cards for the cast of "True Grit" seated next to the cast of "Glee." Moving more toward the center of the room reveals the actors of "The Kids Are All Right" seated next to the guys from "30 Rock." And a quick look around the rest of the room shows the ensemble from "The Closer" seated next to "Modern Family," who are across from the cast of "The Fighter" and "Hot in Cleveland." "Actors are actors. They don't care that they are on TV. In fact, you know, film actors are very, very fond of watching actors on TV and vice versa," Connell said. The 17th annual SAG Awards will air live on TNT and TBS this Sunday at 8p.m. ET from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Britney Spears' 'Hold It Against Me' Gets Remixed

In the weeks since the pop star released the hard-pounding dance cut, DJs and producers have begun work on making sure it bangs the club even harder. A few days ago, house legend Paul Oakenfold revealed on Twitter that he was putting together a "HIAM" remix, tweeting, "I'm in the studio working on Britney Spears remix its going well." Oakenfold previously remixed Spears' "Gimme More." While fans have yet to hear how Oakenfold plays with "Hold It Against Me," electropop act Robots With Rayguns already have released their own, space-aged rendition on the tune. Their version combines '80s-inspired synths, robot noises and sparse beats, while keeping Spears' vocals at the forefront of the track. It sounds like Kylie Minogue's version of dance pop, playing up Spears' sex-kitten image. DJ Mike Rizzo has offered up his own take on "Hold It Against Me," subtitled "Funk Generation Club Mix," and it goes dark where Robots With Rayguns went light. Playing up the song's already-heavy electro and house groove, this remix sounds like it would be right at home at any given dance party, with its lopped vocals, sirens and thumping beat. The dance community has been vocal about their support of "Hold It Against Me." "The more the stuff that is underground becomes mainstream, the more the underground is gonna change," Skrillex told MTV News with regard to the Dr. Luke/ Max Martin-produced tune. "I think it's gonna inspire people to obviously do something different. "I thought the track was great overall," he added. "I'll be honest, man: I love Max Martin. I think he's an absolute genius. And Dr. Luke did it, right? I think they are a f---ing dream team. I love the track!" Meanwhile, super-producer David Guetta says he's all for the track and Spears' further journey down the dance rabbit hole. "My favorite part is that dub step break. I think that's really cool," he explained to MTV News. "It's like the beat is really simple and you're like, 'OK,' and then there's this huge chorus it's like, 'OK,' but then when they come with that dub step break ... Britney Spears Is A 'Tigress' In 'Hold It Against Me' Video, Choreographer Says

"I didn't necessarily have pressure with this — it was more excitement," he said of working with the pop diva again. "I haven't been with Britney in five years on a project, so it was excitement to be back with her. It was excitement to get her dancing really hard again 'cause she's had a couple of years where she's been dancing different styles of dance and it hasn't been me. "It's not necessarily that she hasn't been dancing, it hasn't been what I get from her, and what I seem to get from her is this tigress quality," he continued. "And she prowls. She really dominates when she does my choreography, and that's what I wanted to get back. Excited yes, scared no." Shot over two days last weekend, the video shows Spears in a look she tweeted from the set. The preview pic, a lo-res photo, shows Spears from the shoulders up, standing with her back to the camera and her face turned toward it. The singer is in a red outfit, surrounded by a wreath of microphones. While Friedman danced around any specific details about the clip, he did share that the video will have 10 male dancers. He also told us his favorite part: "I love nudity," he teased. "I can tell you that Britney is wearing a couple of hats in this video — not literal hats, but she's playing roles in this video. That is what I can give you," he explained. "In every role, she is dancing. She is going to be dancing throughout the whole video. Like I said: Dance is the focal point of this video." He also teased a bit about the costumes: "She's taking fashion risks. Things we've never seen her wear before she's wearing in this video, and I think it's just very sexy and it's a little bit playful," he added. "She's going to be doing something in this video that we've never seen her do. I'm not gonna tell you what that is but she's going to be sweating and she's going to be getting bruised and battered." Usher's 'OMG' Is MTV News' #1 Song Of 2010!

We've already counted down the rest, and now it's time to get to the best: Usher's "OMG," the song that perfectly sums up the past 12 months of popular music — and makes you wanna move until you can't move no more. If 2010 proved anything, it's that a DJ really can save your life ... or at least get you to #1 on the Hot 100. After years of staring at each other from across the room, hip-hop, pop and R&B all decided to finally get in bed with dance music, and the results weren't always pretty, but they were certainly successful. To date, only 17 songs have made it to the top spot of Billboard's singles chart in 2010, and nearly two-thirds of them — from Ke$ha's "Tik Tok" to Far East Movement's "Like a G6" — were, in some way, dance songs. In that regard, no song better sums up 2010 pop music quite like Usher's "OMG," the dance song to end all dance songs. Sure, it may not have matched the swagger of Kanye West's "Power," the snarl of Rick Ross' "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)" or the inbox-clogging spread of Cee Lo's "F--- You," but it didn't have to. None of those songs went to #1, after all. "OMG" did. Twice. Even among songs that managed to snag that top spot — Eminem and Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie," Katy Perry's "California Gurls," B.o.B and Bruno Mars' "Nothin' on You" — "OMG" stood out from the pack, mostly because of its pedigree. It's not a stretch to say that any of those tracks could've (and probably would've) been #1 in any other year; "OMG" could only have done it in 2010, because it was crafted to do nothing else. No other song this year was as of the moment, as singular and shiny and downright undeniable. There's a reason it was named on more ballots than any other song on our countdown and justly takes the title of MTV News' #1 Song of 2010. And while all that is important, it's largely beside the point. "OMG" is the kind of song that truly defies deep inspection, because it's not exactly headphone music. Rather, it was made for the clubs, designed to envelop you on the dance floor and not let go until the final "oh-ohh-oh-ooh-oh." And in that regard, it succeeds in spades. It is a masterful melding of R&B, and Euro dance, all icy synths and handclaps, starbursts and stutters and sing-along chants. It ebbs and flows, stops and starts, pumps and preens. Simply put, you cannot listen to it without moving in some way. (MTV's Dee Caligiuri, who voted on our countdown, probably put it best one night when she declared: "There are so many dances you can do to it!") And if that's not the definition of a success, well, then I don't know what is. A large portion of the credit for "OMG" has to go to will.i.am, who not only produced the track (I know!), but was smart enough to see this whole dance thing coming when he teamed up with producer David Guetta last year. Those songs — "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling" — were, of course, massive, but neither of them are as good as this. Given full control, Will goes off the deep end, cramming the song with every dance trick in the book — and probably some new ones he just invented on the spot. And Usher, whose career, truth be told, was sort of in need of a shot in the arm, is the beneficiary. He floats and gloats above the mix, suave and cocksure, knowing that he is exactly the right man at the right time. That time, of course, had to be 2010. Because in a year when so many big-name acts embraced the DJ, he flat-out did it better than any of them. "OMG" represents the peak of the dance-pop era in which we live, a song as undeniable as it is of the moment. We can only speculate as to what next year will bring, but there's really no denying that, as 2010 comes to a close, Usher stands above all else, reinvigorated and ready for more. Lady Gaga Premieres Born This Way Short Film

Film, starring 'Zombie Boy,' features remixed song and footage from Thierry Mugler fashion show.By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga (file) Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images The world may at last have a first glimpse of what Gaga has up her sleeve for Born This Way, thanks to a short film made for designer Thierry Mugler. The film, directed by fashion photographer Mariano Vivanco, is set to the remixed song that Gaga debuted at the Mugler menswear show in Paris on Wednesday. The black-and-white video, which premiered on Stylist.com and Mugler.com on Thursday (January 20), features Canadian model Rick Genest, also known as Zombie Boy, whose body and face are tattooed to look like a skeleton. It opens with voiceover of Gaga saying, "I don't speak German, but I can if you like," as the camera focuses on Zombie Boy, rocking a studded helmet. Footage of Zombie Boy is edited together with models walking the catwalk in Mugler designs. Zombie Boy mugs for the camera wearing a leather jacket and pearls while Gaga sings in German, "I'm absolutely clear/ As long as I'm a monster/ I wish we all could be blind/ It would be easier out there." She repeats the phrase and the beat plays low under her anthem. There is very little pop in the dark, subversive club jam, reminiscent of a '90s club track. The vibe of the video is an extension of her equally fashionable clip for "Alejandro," which was styled by Nicola Formichetti, who happens to be the creative director of Thierry Mugler. Zombie Boy is later seen walking in a city, wearing street clothes, as Gaga sings in English, "I'll take you out tonight/ Say whatever you like," accompanied by a pulsing beat. The video closes with a model walking down the runway as the song fades out. Gaga remixed the song herself for the show. "I love him, my friend the genius, my collaborator, more more than any piece of clothing or closet I possess," she said of Formichetti in a statement about the show. "But don't tell him I said that, he'll die. He picked them all out." After gushing about Gaga's performance at his White Tie & Tiara Ball charity event last year, John told "Access Hollywood" that he approached the singer about singing on "Hello, Hello." "We became friends, and I adore her," he said. "I told her about the song, and she said, 'I'd love to do it,' and she did it. We're just so thrilled she took time out of her incredibly busy schedule to do it." John said Gaga put her own spin on the pop tune, which he produced with longtime partner David Furnish. "She had fun with it and changed it a little bit and brought her own personality to it, so she gave Juliet that personality," he said. The singer/songwriter was also pleased about another lady who joined him on the soundtrack. "It was always going to be a duet, and it's like, 'Who am I going to sing this with?' " John recalled thinking about "Hello, Hello." "It turned out to be Gaga, and then at the end of the film, I sing with Nelly Furtado, so it's like two great girls on one soundtrack, so I'm thrilled." Amazon has uploaded a preview of the song, but the clip only includes Elton's part. It's no surprise that the song has already received praise from one of Gaga's biggest supporters, Perez Hilton. On Monday (January 24), after attending the "Gnomeo & Juliet" world premiere, the blogger wrote: "We are pleased to report that the Elton and Gaga duet, 'Hello Hello,' is an A+. Such a lovely song!
