Michael Jackson Overdose Re-Enacted In Court Video

Prosecution aimed to prove MJ's death could have been prevented if Dr. Conrad Murray had the proper equipment and staffing.By Gil Kaufman Steven Shafer Photo: Pool/Getty Images After five days of recess, the involuntary manslaughter trial of Michael Jackson doctor Conrad Murray resumed in a Los Angeles courtroom Wednesday (October 19) with the airing of a dramatic video showing an actor going into cardiac arrest and being revived following a propofol overdose. The Witness » Dr. Steven Shafer, anesthesiologist Key Testimony » After the trial was recessed for two days to allow Shafer to attend a conference -- which he did not make it to in light of his father's death -- the anesthesiologist, who emphasized the fact that his pro bono consultation on the case is motivated by his desire to restore faith in the public that propofol is not fatal when administered and monitored properly, completed his testimony from last week. Shafer, an expert on the surgical anesthetic propofol, narrated a video in which jurors watched an actor pretending to go into cardiac arrest while being administered propofol. The Los Angeles coroner's office determined that Jackson died of "acute propofol intoxication," which caused the singer to go into cardiac arrest. » In the video, doctors and nurses successfully revive the patient using equipment and staffing that Murray did not have in Jackson's home. The dramatic re-enactment capped a case from the prosecution aimed at proving that Murray acted in a negligent, unprofessional manner in his treatment of Jackson. » Murray lawyer Ed Chernoff argued vehemently against showing the video, calling it "a terrifying dramatization of a person experiencing cardiac arrest" that he said was intended to inflame the jurors' minds. Prosecutors countered that it was aimed at educating jurors about the safe way to administer propofol. A judge allowed the video but ordered Deputy District Attorney David Walgren to re-edit the video mid-morning to delete several scenes that he said were not relevant to the case. » Over the course of the afternoon, the prosecution walked Shafer through his analysis of 17 major infractions -- what Shafer termed "egregious violations" -- in Murray's treatment of Jackson. Four of those violations were deemed "fundamentally unconscionable," such as Murray's failure to purchase and implement the proper medical monitoring devices and his failure to chart and document his treatment of Jackson, or keep any records. "It's a setup for disaster," Shafer said, adding that the violations were all contributing factors in Jackson's death. Murray, who has pleaded not guilty to the felony charge of involuntary manslaughter, is facing four years in prison if convicted. But new sentencing laws in California meant to mandatorily reduce state prison overcrowding mean that, as a nonviolent offender with no prior record, he could be sentenced to county jail instead. If that is the case, his sentence could be reduced to two years and, because of overcrowding in the Los Angeles County jail, he may be allowed to serve the majority of his time under supervised house arrest. 'Breaking Dawn' Experts Reveal 'MTV First' Wish List

'Twilight' super-fans tell us what they're expecting from exclusive clip and live Q&A on Thursday at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV.By Kara Warner Kristen Stewart in "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" Photo: Summit Entertainment We can hardly contain our "Twilight"-obsessed excitement for Thursday, November 3, at 7:56 p.m. ET when we will premiere a never-before-released clip from the hugely anticipated "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" live on-air, to be introduced by megastars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. This extra-special event is "MTV First: Breaking Dawn - Part 1," which is an opportunity for us to provide our fellow "Twilight" fans with some insider excitement surrounding the impending release of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1," due November 18, and catch up with the three actors following the clip's debut on MTV.com. To get a feel for what members of the "Twilight" fandom hope to hear or see next week, MTV News sought out the expertise of Laura Byrne-Cristiano, who owns TwilightLexicon.com; Kara Hassell of TwilightersAnonymous.com; and Kallie Mathews from TwilightSeriesTheories.com. In the exclusive clip, Byrne-Cristiano and Mathews hope to see some reactions to Bella's pregnancy from the wolf pack, while Hassell hopes more humans are involved. "I love the Cullens and werewolves as much as the next 'Twilight' fan, but I'm dying to see a little snark from Charlie Swan (Billy Burke) or Jessica Stanley (Anna Kendrick)," Hassell said. The ladies are also eager to see the dynamic between Stewart, Pattinson and Lautner during the MTV.com Q&A following the premiere of the clip. "I hope and expect to see some great chemistry and a lot of comedy from the three," Hassell said. "We've seen them individually in interviews recently, but it's always a whole different ballgame when they are all together." "I would really love to hear them discuss acting together, i.e. when Jacob finds out that Bella is preggers," Mathews added. "And what it was like to play off of each other's emotions in such an intense scene." " what scene are they the proudest of that they took part in," Byrne-Cristiano said. "In terms of end result on film." Continuing with the theme of patiently waiting and eager anticipation, how are our dedicated experts preparing for the film's opening day and making the wait less painful? "I'm so busy grabbing every interview and news story. It takes my mind off of it," Byrne-Cristiano said. "Plus, we are planning this big private movie showing for our fans in the Nashville area, so I've been really busy with that." "I have re-watched each of the first three films, and I have the soundtracks on repeat in my car!" Hassell admitted. "I am planning to be at the premiere with the rest of the fans!" Mathews said. "We are also giving away a ton of 'Twilight' merchandise at TwilightSeriesTheories.com leading up to the release. I will stay very busy!" Don't forget: Fans can get in on our interviews with Stewart, Pattinson and Lautner by submitting video or text questions via MTV.com or Twitter (using @MTVNews, plus the hashtags #AskTwilight and #MTVFirst). Ghostface Screams His Way Into MTV's Killer Halloween

Where does the 'Scream' baddie rank among other horror icons? We're polling you all week to find out!By Eric Ditzian Ghostface from "Scream" Photo: Dimension Films Ghostface better get on his cell phone and start scaring the crap out of fans, because three days into MTV's Killer Halloween, the know-it-all "Scream" psycho is trailing his blood-spilling cinematic brethren in our voter-driven, category-by-category analysis of horror-movie murderers. In terms of weaponry, Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers trumped Ghostface's knife. And when it came to style, the "Scream" dude's black gown and oblong, am-I-sad-or-psychotic mask couldn't outdo Freddy's striped sweater, Jason's hockey mask or Michael's white-washed, blank-faced mask of terror. But perhaps today is Ghostface's day to shine, for now we turn to personality, and here this killer might just shine (or die trying). Which horror-movie baddie has the best personality? Make your pick in our MTV Movies Blog poll! Ghostface Occupation: Student(s), stay-at-home-mom, filmmaker Weapons: Knife, deep knowledge of the horror genre, irony Archenemy: Sidney Prescott, innocent people living near Sidney Prescott Profile: From his first ominously flirty phone call with Drew Barrymore in the 1996 original, Ghostface announced himself as a killer of unique talents and iconic potential. Ever since, the question "What's your favorite scary movie?" has taken on an entirely different meaning. The key thing that separates Ghostface from most other horror-movie killers is that he's never the same person twice. Sometimes he's one malicious woman with a troubled sense of right and wrong; other times, he's two friends with an itch to draw blood and get famous. The only consistencies are that mask-and-gown getup, an encyclopedic knowledge of horror flicks, and a vendetta against Sidney Prescott, the teary-eyed damsel in distress played by Neve Campbell. Poor Sidney just can't catch a break. Yes, there is always something a little nonsensical about these shifting Ghostfaces. You're telling me Sidney's boyfriend and his best pal murdered her mom and then went on a Woodsboro-wide killing spree, because why exactly? A couple of kids go from pursuing normal teenage goals like getting drunk and getting laid to wanting to be famous so badly they're willing — and able! — to become crazy-eyed killas? It sounds odd to say when we're talking about a genre in which a child molester can enter the dreams of his victims, but Ghostface always falls a bit short when it comes to believability, if only because the "Scream" franchise takes place in a pop-culture-saturated world so close to our own. What makes Ghostface a wicked cool bad guy, then, is not why he stabs, but how. Hyper-steeped in horror-movie lore, he appropriates clichés and, in the bloody process, reinvents them. But let's not get too academic here. Ghostface has got swag. He's funny as hell, and when you least expect it, when you're still laughing from your gut, he stabs you in it. Where do you think Ghostface falls in the scope of horror-movie psychopaths? Let us know in the comments! Check out everything we've got on "Scream." Grimm?s Debut Last Night: What Did You Think?

Did you catch Grimm’s debut last night? DVR’d it because of the World Series (congrats to the Cards, btw) and even though I’m not one for any bit of gruesomeness, I found myself hooked from the get go. Again, I can’t stress enough how much I really don’t watch or read anything horror related, so for me to even sit through a show like this for more than two minutes speaks volumes. Heh. It certainly held my interest. If you missed it, no worries, NBC will re-air Grimm tonight at 9:00 PM EST! Check out some video highlights from the show below. How did Grimm’s debut fare in the ratings? Yes, it did go up against Game 7 of the World Series, but it did pretty well, considering, garnering 6.49 million viewers. The show did a good job of introducing us to the characters and was easy to follow. Nick (played by David Giuntoli) is a homicide detective who finds out from his sick aunt (played by the amazing Kate Burton) that he is in fact the last of the Grimms, which explains why he can see the crazy zombies and we can’t. And so the premise is set. He Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/RightCelebrity/~3/H8AQuQeT6XI/Jessica Alba

Britney Spears To Premiere 'Criminal' Video Next Week

'Just saw the final cut of the Criminal video... It's so hot,' Britney tweets.By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears' <i>Criminal</i> Photo: Jive/Sony Britney Spears is ready to release her cheeky clip for "Criminal" next week, Spears and director Chris Marrs Piliero confirmed Thursday (October 13) on Twitter. "Just saw the final cut of the Criminal video... It's so hot. Can't wait for you guys to see it next week," the pop songstress tweeted. So when exactly will the video drop? A rep for the singer had no further details about the premiere when contacted by MTV News. Earlier this month, Piliero stayed pretty quiet about what fans should expect from the video, but he did gush about Spears' performance on Twitter. "Not a whole lot i'm allowed to say about the @britneyspears criminal vid other than that i love this video and can't wait for it to come out," he wrote. "Oh and that she looks gorgeous in it... pretty sure it's cool for me to say that..." Spears shot the video last month in London, right before kicking off the European leg of her Femme Fatale Tour. The video features Spears and real-life beau Jason Trawick. Little is known about what will happen in the video, but when Spears was photographed carrying a prop gun on set, politicians in the U.K. accused the star of glorifying violence after the London riots. The video was shot in Hackney, which was hit hard by the August riots, and local politicians were upset by what they saw as an insensitive gesture by Spears. "It is only a music video, but it's images like this, with pop stars glamorizing gangs, which means that some young people ... get drawn in," Hackney's Member of Parliament, Diane Abbott, told the ITV news program "London Tonight." "Britney should really know better." However, Spears shrugged off any criticisms in a statement to MTV News. "The video is a fantasy story featuring Britney's boyfriend, Jason Trawick, which literally plays out the lyrics of a song written three years before the riots ever happened," the statement read. What are you expecting from the "Criminal" video? Let us know in the comments! Justin Bieber, Usher Drop Christmas Track

'The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)' debuted on Ryan Seacrest's radio show Monday morning.By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber in the "Mistletoe" video Photo: Island Def Jam On November 1, Justin Bieber will take his fans Under the Mistletoe on his holiday album. But he's giving them an early treat by releasing his Usher duet, "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)," on Monday (October 24). The song dropped on Ryan Seacrest's radio show. Its vibe is reminiscent of '90s R&B tracks, and it sounds a lot like it could have been recorded by Boyz II Men, who also appear on the album. The Christmas classic is all about the little joys of the holiday season, including the family get-togethers, the food and Santa bringing presents to children. The song, one of the classics that appears on the album, hits iTunes on Monday. Bieber and Usher previously appeared together on "Somebody to Love" off My World 2.0. "Justin and I did the classic record 'Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire.' This record is going to be remembered for years to come," Usher told Seacrest on Monday morning. "It's a record that has always been one of my favorites, and I'm happy that I was able to share it with Justin, and for us to put it out. The album is full of surprises. Justin's Under the Mistletoe is going to be incredible!" In the lead-up to the release, Bieber released some behind-the-scenes footage of his mentor and him in the studio working on the song. He also shared that he had another surprise in store for his fans. Just one week after dropping the video for "Mistletoe," he tweeted, "Up early to shoot another video for #UNDERTHEMISTLETOE #Nov1st but something else is out this morning...." In addition to Usher, Under the Mistletoe will also feature appearances from the Band Perry, Busta Rhymes, Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey, who re-recorded her classic "All I Want for Christmas" for the album. Jigsaw Tests Into MTV's Killer Halloween

'Saw' serial killer 'basically a regular guy' the audience can respect, horror expert says. So, how does he rank among movie murderers?By Kara Warner John Kramer, known as Jigsaw, in "Saw" Photo: Lions Gate Films This week's horror-movie-themed bloodletting continues with Day 4 of MTV's Killer Halloween, an in-depth competition in which we ask you, the best and brightest fans, to vote on who is the boldest, baddest and scariest movie murderer. Which horror-movie baddie has the best personality? Make your pick in our MTV Movies Blog poll! Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, Chucky, Michael Myers and Ghostface all have received spotlight treatment, and now it's time to turn the focus toward a seriously scary mass-murderer: Jigsaw. Jigsaw Name: John "Jigsaw" Kramer, so nicknamed for his practice of cutting puzzle pieces out of the flesh of victims who didn't "pass" his deadly tests in the "Saw" movie franchise Occupation: Civil engineer turned sadistic self-appointed judge of others' life choices Weapons: Practical home-improvement items found at a local Home Depot or Lowe's, along with the aid of a few helping hands here and there Archenemy: People who waste or don't appreciate their lives, laziness Profile: Kramer is a former civil engineer who is dying from colon cancer. After an unsuccessful suicide attempt, he suddenly gains a new appreciation for life and sets out to make others appreciate what they have before it's too late. Unfortunately, and as is standard in all good horror flicks, his methods are a bit twisted. In an effort to test his victims' survival instincts, he crafts deadly and torturous traps that play upon his captives' character flaws. He doesn't really want his victims to die, but makes it nearly impossible for them to survive. Horror-movie expert Ryan Turek, managing editor of ShockTillYouDrop.com, explains Jigsaw's brilliance: "Behind the flayed flesh and exposed guts his messy traps leave behind, Jigsaw does have a pretty solid message to pass along: Live your life and live it right. It's up to the people he captures to survive the blades, gears and barbed wire of his contraptions," Turek told MTV News, adding that what separates Jigsaw from other horror-movie killers is the fact that he's basically a regular guy. "That's something that the audience can invest in and be terrified of: that lurking behind this amiable face is something incredibly deranged. That somber, withering older guy in the corner? He's quietly eyeballing you and probably has a trap waiting for you somewhere. It also helps that he's smart," Turek continued. "This is a man with an education, and to a degree, you can respect him, which is a scary thought. Jigsaw's vicious tests get the audience engaged in a discussion about right and wrong. He forces people to better themselves. I'm waiting for the day 'The Jigsaw Challenge' reality show hits television. We're not that far off, are we?" Check out everything we've got on "Saw." 'Arrested Development' Producer Shoots Down Script Rumors

'I've seen some of script,' Brian Grazer says of long-awaited adaptation of Fox series.By By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz "Arrested Development" cast Photo: FOX Brian Grazer is attached to two of Hollywood's most sought-after projects with director Ron Howard: the new TV episodes and film for "Arrested Development" and the adaption of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series. Both have been in the pipelines for years but are now finally close to heading into production. MTV News asked about the films when he sat down with the producer to talk about his upcoming film "Tower Heist." After about five years of speculation, the team behind the cult hit series "Arrested Development" announced plans to produce a short season of new episodes followed by a feature film. Grazer confirmed the plan, saying, "We're going to do 10 episodes and the movie." He also mentioned that he had seen some of the script by series creator Mitch Hurwitz but denied rumors that the plot would follow Ron Howard as he tries to make a movie based on the series' characters the Bluths. Grazer also took time to comment on the state of the much-discussed "Dark Tower" adaptation, which was slated for a multiplatform treatment covering film and television but ran into trouble with its large budget. "When people say no to you enough, you have to lose money, which we've done without harming the scope of the film," Grazer explained. News recently hit the Web that the production had cut $45 million from the budget, and Grazer confirmed that figure, saying that the plan for both the TV and film versions still stands. "We'll do the TV with HBO," Grazer said, adding that the film versions have not yet found a studio home. But Grazer assured fans, saying, "We'll do it right." Gwen Stefani Turns Princess for Halloween Soiree

Making for quite the gorgeous sight to be seen, Gwen Stefani dressed up as a Disney princess over the Halloween weekend in Los Angeles, California on Saturday night (October 29). The No Doubt frontwoman sashayed her way into the Beverly Wilshire Hotel while out for an evening costume party thrown by fellow Tinseltown star Kate Hudson. As for her breathtaking ensemble, Miss Stefani channeled Cinderella by tossing on a powder blue gown with white gloves and a tiara while also putting her hair in a fancy updo. Prior to her evening on the town, the 42-year-old was spotted in typical weekend attire consisting of an off-white jacket, grey top, and navy trousers as she paid a quick visit to her assistant's house. Leatherface Makes The Cut For MTV's Killer Halloween

Vote for the best and scariest movie murderer in our Killer Halloween matchup.By Kara Warner Leatherface in "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" Photo: Vortex MTV's Killer Halloween continues! We're on a mission to find out who the best and scariest movie murderer is based on your votes, and we're ranking these ghastly guys on their deadliest attributes. Freddy Krueger and Ghostface, Jason and Leatherface are just a few of the cinematic terrors on our list. Check out our latest killer profile, for "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" crazy man Leatherface, and be sure to visit us every day this week to see the latest matchups! Name: Leatherface Occupation: Taxidermist, cannibal, serial killer Weapons: Chainsaw, meat hooks, butcher's hammer, family baggage Archenemy: Sanity, vegetarians, syphilis (the reason Leatherface doesn't have a nose) Profile: What's not to love about a killer who wields a chainsaw and wears a mask made of human skin? Not to mention that bloody butcher's apron — it is a killer getup, pun intended. Leatherface made his terrifying debut in 1974's beloved slasher classic "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre." The backwoods cannibal's gruesome appeal is enhanced by the involvement of his totally twisted, psychotic, inbred family members, who own and operate the Last Chance gas station and use it to find new victims to torture, kill ... and barbecue. Horror movie expert Brian Collins of Horror Movie a Day attributes Leatherface's appeal to his simplicity and consistency. "They never really screwed him up like the other guys. Freddy turned into a cartoon, Michael was ret-conned into a henchman for some druid cult, but Leatherface was always just a simple cannibal with a chainsaw and a mask made of human skin," Collins told MTV News. "He always had a group of other killers to play off of, making him a little more three-dimensional than the others who worked alone." Leatherface and his family, along with their creepy cannibalistic ways, were featured in several other films following the original: "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2," "Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III," "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation," the 2003 Michael Bay-produced remake, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," and a 2006 prequel, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning." Their appalling adventures also inspired several comic books: 1991's four-issue series, "Leatherface," 1995's three-issue "Jason vs. Leatherface," and one-off special issues like "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Special" and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Cut!" "Leatherface is up there with Freddy, Jason and Michael as far as the die-hard horror fans are concerned," Collins said of the chainsaw wielder's place among favorite horror movie killers, adding that the hankering for human flesh and hacking through it is an unforgettable combo, even if he isn't as mainstream as the likes of Freddy and Jason. "I don't think he's as iconic to the casual moviegoer as the others, since there haven't been as many movies," he said. Check out everything we've got on "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre." Captain America

Go see Captain America this weekend! Support our Colin! I went to the premiere on Tuesday and it was the coolest thing ever. First, the movie is AMAZING and Chris Evans is a superstar. Second, there were so many damn people there it was insane. I have been to movie premieres in New York before and they were nothing like this. I mean, they closed down Hollywood Boulevard. I would've taken photos to show you, but the invite said to leave phones in the car. But here's a photo of me in my cool Captain America 3D glasses: (Sit down, stop jumping around, it's an awesome picture, I know. And the quality is amazing. It's not grainy or reddish... it's perfect.) (No, it's not.) (And you can totally see the Captain America logo on the side of the glasses.) (No, you can't.) Anyway, Captain America is pulling a strong 71% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes right now so GO SEE IT! IT'S FANTASTIC! Source: http://www.prettyinthecity.com/blog/2011/7/22/captain-america.htmlEmilie de Ravin

'In Time': The Reviews Are In!

Justin Timberlake's sci-fi thriller has audiences and critics divided.By Kara Warner Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried in "In Time" Photo: 20th Century Fox What do you get when you mix a futuristic, time-as-money/life-or-death premise; a cast of pretty young things, including Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Matt Bomer and Cillian Murphy; plus the sound sci-fi sensibilities of writer/director Andrew Niccol ("Gattaca," "The Truman Show") and appropriately stylized cinematography by Roger Deakins ("True Grit," "The Reader")? "In Time" is what, a complex, visually appealing sci-fi thriller that has audiences and critics somewhat divided. (The critical collective over at Rotten Tomatoes is at 36 percent rotten, while its audience rating sits at 76 percent fresh.) Take a few moments to check out the film's ticking points, if you will, as we sift through the "In Time" reviews! The Story "The premise builds on the notion that time is money. In the movie's dystopian future, where today's cars have tomorrow's grilles, time has replaced money. People are born with genetic clocks that stop at the age of 25; after that they've got one year in which to beg, borrow, steal or even earn more time. If they don't, the digital clocks embedded in their forearms dwindle down to zero and they time out, i.e., die. That's clever, right? But then there are roving gangs called Minute Men (Teddy Boy types out of 'A Clockwork Orange') who steal time; the borderline-silly spectacle of almost everyone looking 25; the polemic element of social injustice (the richest of the rich can live forever because they've got eons socked away); and the action-adventure element, a clumsy amalgam of Robin Hood, 'Bonnie and Clyde,' 'The Avengers,' 'Les Misérables,' 'Dick Tracy' (for the color and graphics) and Mr. Niccol's earlier, and impressive, genetic-engineering opus 'Gattaca.' " — Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal The Sci-Fi Confusion/ High-Concept Factor "For a movie about the importance of maximizing every second, 'In Time' ultimately grows repetitive and wears out its welcome. It's fast-paced and hugely stylish, though, with its great-looking cast and a mix of gleaming, futuristic visuals and grimy, industrial chic. And it's a welcome return to the kind of slick sci-fi Niccol made his name on in the mid-'90s with 'Gattaca' and 'The Truman Show' (which he wrote). But his high-concept premise raises several nagging questions. Why do all the inhabitants of this dystopian world (which happens to look just like downtown Los Angeles and Century City) stop aging at 25, then find themselves with only a year left unless they can buy themselves more? When did this start — what is the purpose? And if Justin Timberlake is so busy working in a factory just so he can afford to live one day to the next, where does he find time to go to the gym?" — Christy Lemire, The Associated Press The Performances "There are moguls who are mean and have more time than God, which they bank in banks. Chief among them is a calculatingly evil Philippe Weis ('Mad Men's' Vincent Kartheiser, well-turned-out here too), with daughter Sylvia (Seyfried) the apple of Daddy's eye — although whether he loves her or time more will be tested. There are regular bad guys, time thieves called Minutemen, led by Alex Pettyfer, who seems to be getting a little too comfortable in bad-guy roles ('Beastly,' 'Tormented'), as Fortis. Meanwhile, inflation is rampant; the class divide is growing ever wider; the world is ripe for an action hero. Cue Timberlake. 'In Time' was supposed to turn Timberlake into a superhero, though given the way he manages a fairly massive pop career with an increasingly impressive acting portfolio ('Social Network' most recently), that may not be necessary. He brings an interesting sensibility to his characters, Will included, that suggest a complex interior that 'In Time' never quite reveals. The same goes for Seyfried ('Mamma Mia!,' 'Red Riding Hood'), who can do a lot more than use those big eyes and sleek lines." — Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times The Final Word, Pro-Con-Pro Style "There's plenty to enjoy about that genre standard, which, with the help of the cinematographer Roger Deakins (shooting in digital), Mr. Niccol transforms into a neonoir gaudily washed in green and gold. There's a memorable night scene when Will and Sylvia sprint across a succession of roofs pursued by Raymond, the camera racing parallel with the couple, the exuberance of their freedom and flight palpable. Here, as in other scenes where Mr. Niccol let his images do the talking, the movie works, despite its wavering tone and slow-and-go energy. But then the characters open their mouths and start going on about minutes and hours, clocks and watches, and their time running out and not having enough time and where's my time, don't waste my time, that time will get you killed, brother can you spare some time because, well, I'm all out." — Manohla Dargis, The New York Times "One problem with 'In Time' is that it's more fun to describe than to sit through. Another is that Niccol's direction of his cast is spotty at best. Timberlake has the steely visage and stubbled cheeks for a rogue hero, but Seyfried, always a watchable presence, has trouble connecting with Sylvia's inner rebellious streak or, for that matter, lending urgency to her line readings. The film's crucial failing, though, is that Niccol's imagination is vigorously literary but not thrillingly cinematic. The movie exhausts its capital about halfway through — devolving, as the Timekeeper tracks the lovers on the run, into a series of car chases and foot races, none of them very spiffily executed. If you're like me, you will be captivated by the first hour and, after that, impatiently checking your watch." — Richard Corliss, Time "Even if 'In Time' descends from its gripping and thought-provoking premise into a mediocre chase thriller before it's over, it's still pretty damn satisfying to watch in the current climate. Of course the contradictions of capitalism are just as present in eras of widespread affluence as in eras of recession or stagnation, but we see them a hell of a lot more clearly at the moment. Niccol is dramatizing the human costs of the concentration of wealth, expressed by Philippe in the film with the formula that some must die so others can live forever. Somewhere Marx quips that capital is immortal even if its possessors are not; this movie's imaginative leap is to conflate the two and build a world where even death, the great leveler in human affairs, can be bought off." — Andrew O'Hehir, Salon.com Check out everything we've got on "In Time." Beyonce Puts 'Love On Top' In New Video Tease

Queen B is reportedly set to release her latest 4 video this week, just a week after she dropped 'Countdown.'By Jocelyn Vena Beyonce in the "Love on Top" music video teaser Photo: Columbia Just days after she released her video for "Countdown," are you feeling like you already need a new Beyoncé video? No problem. Queen B's got your back! Even though she just released the Adria Petty-directed, retro-fied clip for "Countdown" last Thursday on MTV and her "Party" clip is waiting in the wings, Beyoncé isn't holding back her video for "Love on Top." A teaser for the latest single from 4 dropped over the weekend. Find out what the "Countdown" director had to say about B's video shoot! The short clip features Beyoncé in an all-black spandex bodysuit, rocking a bedazzled captain's hat, tights and high-top sneakers. She shimmies in perfect step with her all-male backup singers as she smiles her way through the song. The video has the appearance of a performance rehearsal taking place in a loft space full of windows. While her baby bump was on full display in her "Countdown" video, she doesn't appear to be rocking one in this video. Essence.com reported that the video is slated to drop this week, though no further details are available. In the minute-plus video tease for "Love on Top," we see B on the same set with the same group of dancers — a far cry from the multicolored, manically edited "Countdown" clip that premiered on MTV last Thursday. The mom-to-be referenced everything from "Funny Face" to "Flashdance" in the fast-paced video, which matched the song's urgent beat. Co-director Adria Petty told MTV News that she and Beyoncé handpicked the video's many pop-culture references. "I brought Beyoncé a number of references and we picked some out together," Petty revealed. "Most were German modern-dance references, believe it or not. But it really evolved." Beyoncé famously performed "Love on Top" at the VMAs back in August. As she danced around the stage in her sequined blazer, it was her baby bump reveal at the end of her performance that made headlines, serving as confirmation that she and Jay-Z are expecting their first baby together. The video tease is a variation on the VMA performance, which featured Beyoncé performing the track with several backup singers. That night, Beyoncé took the stage and, during the opening notes of the song, told the room, "Tonight I want you to stand up on your feet. I want you to feel the love that's growing inside of me." Michael Jackson Gave Himself Propofol, Expert Testifies

Final defense witness says Dr. Conrad Murray's care was substandard, but not involuntary manslaughter.By Gil Kaufman Propofol expert Dr. Paul White testifies in court Friday Photo: Getty Images The final day of testimony in the involuntary manslaughter trial of Michael Jackson's former doctor, Conrad Murray, was devoted to a defense witness who has reportedly pieced together a new explanation for how the King of Pop died. And if Dr. Paul White can convince the jury that Murray gave substandard care but that it didn't rise to the level of involuntary manslaughter, he could turn the tide for the beleaguered defense team. The Witness » Dr. Paul White, propofol expert Key Testimony » Anesthesiologist White readily admitted to defense attorneys Thursday that Murray's decision to dose Jackson with the surgical anesthetic propofol and then leave the room was not proper medical procedure. Returning to the stand Friday (October 28), he testified that he believes the singer killed himself by self-injecting a fatal dose of propofol. According to CBS News, White testified that he can't find proof to support the prosecution theory that Jackson's doctor was giving Jackson an infusion of the drug through an IV before the King of Pop's demise. He said that theory isn't supported by evidence found at the scene or in Murray's statements to police. » White said the evidence found in the bedroom of Jackson's rented L.A. mansion is more consistent with him receiving an injection of the anesthetic. Earlier, prosecution witness Dr. Steven Shafer told jurors he believed Murray used an IV drop of propofol, which was the only way to explain the high levels of the drug found in Jackson's body. » White also testified that Jackson could have swallowed up to eight tablets of the sedative Lorazepam on the morning of June 25, 2009, when he died. The Los Angeles Coroner's office determined that Jackson died of an overdose of propofol, with Lorazepam playing a contributing role. » Cross-examination of White will take place Monday, which will give prosecutors time to review a new defense analysis of samples taken during Jackson's autopsy. Murray is not expected to take the stand in his defense. Murray, who was being paid $150,000 a month to care for Jackson, has pleaded not guilty to the felony charge of involuntary manslaughter and is now facing four years in prison. But new sentencing laws in California aimed at mandatorily reducing state prison overcrowding mean that, as a nonviolent offender with no prior record, he could be sentenced to county jail instead. If that is the case, his sentence could be reduced to two years and, because of overcrowding in the Los Angeles County jail, he may be allowed to serve the majority of his time under supervised house arrest. Michael Jackson Doctor Brought To Tears By Former Patients' Testimony

Conrad Murray's defense team presented a series of character witnesses who praised his skills as a physician.By Gil Kaufman Dr. Conrad Murray appears in court Wednesday Photo: Getty Images The day after one of Michael Jackson's former nurses was brought to tears while testifying at the involuntary manslaughter trial of the singer's former doctor, Conrad Murray, it was the cardiologist who got weepy on Wednesday (October 26) as his defense team produced a series of witnesses attesting to Murray's skills as a physician. The Witnesses » Andrew Guest, former patient of Conrad Murray » Gerry Causey, former patient » Lunette Sampson, former patient » Ruby Mosley, former patient Key Testimony » After weeks of prosecution witnesses hammering away at what they deemed Murray's unprofessional, sloppy work in the final, crucial hours of MJ's life, the cardiologist's defense team spent Wednesday serving up a string of character witnesses to speak on Murray's behalf, according to the Los Angeles Times. The patients from Murray's Las Vegas and Houston practices talked about the hours he spent speaking to them, calling them at home and on weekends, and the free services he offered to those who were indigent. "That man sitting there is the best doctor I've ever seen," said Andrew Guest, who Murray treated for a heart condition in 2002. "I'm alive because of that man." Their testimony caused Murray to well up with tears at various points. » Longtime patient and friend Causey said his appointments with Murray often lasted more than four hours, with the doctor often calling Causey's wife afterward to explain his treatment. Sampson also testified to Murray's careful, exhaustive attention and Mosley said Murray set up a clinic in a low-income neighborhood in honor of his father, who was a physician in that area. » While cross-examining the witnesses, prosecutor David Walgren pointed out that each patient had received care for heart-related ailments and were not treated for sleep disorders or drug dependency. Prosecutors have said Murray's motivation to give Jackson the surgical anesthetic propofol was his promised six-figure monthly salary. » Each patient also noted that when Murray did sedate them it was in a hospital setting with monitoring equipment and backup personnel. Prosecutors have argued that Murray did not have proper monitoring equipment or a nurse assistant when he gave Jackson a fatal dose of propofol and then left the room on June 25, 2009. » When jurors left for the day, Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor spoke directly to Murray and reminded him that he has a right to choose whether or not he testifies on his own behalf in the trial. Pastor said he would ask Murray for an answer on that question later this week when the defense rests its case. Murray was not listed on Thursday's defense witness roster submitted by attorney Ed Chernoff. Lindsay Lohan Admits To Failing Drug Test

And THIS is why early discharges from rehab are generally a bad idea {sigh}. Lindsay Lohan confessed on twitter that she had, indeed, failed a drug test. Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge Fox next week as a result. TMZ is now reporting that Lindsay actually failed two drug tests. In addition to landing her in jail, this setback could also further derail Lindsay's career, according to TMZ. Lindsay is now relying on Judge Elden Fox to allow her to leave California to shoot "Inferno" in Louisiana and possibly fly to New York City for "Saturday Night Live." Here's the problem. Sources connected with the case have been telling TMZ ... if Lindsay were to fail a drug test the judge would probably pull the plug on out-of-state-travel -- a privilege for Lindsay, not a right. ...But all bets are off now that Lindsay has flunked two tests. And sources close to Lindsay somehow already know the big wigs on "Inferno" are pissed that she may have screwed up again, so flying to Louisiana may be a moot question. You can't really blame the 'Inferno' producers for being upset. It looks like the best thing for Lindsay at this point is a long-term stay in an inpatient facility that focuses solely on drug abuse (not drug problems and psychiatric problems, which is what the UCLA program did). This is really just TOO sad. Photos by FAME Source: http://www.imnotobsessed.com/2010/09/18/lindsay-lohan-admits-to-failing-drug-testAudrina Patridge

Justin Bieber's Next Album Inspired By Justin Timberlake

'I'm trying to create a new sound,' Bieber tells MTV News about follow-up to My World 2.0, due 'early next year.'By James Montgomery Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News It seems sort of odd to talk about Justin Bieber's next album, given that his new album — the holiday-riffic Under the Mistletoe — doesn't hit stores until November 1. But, when MTV News caught up with Bieber this past weekend in Santiago, Chile — where he was wrapping up his two-year My World Tour in record-setting fashion — he was more than ready to start discussing the follow-up to his massive My World 2.0 album, mostly because he's been hard at work on it for a while now, and the finish line is definitely in sight. "What's happening is: get off this tour, and then my album's coming out, so I have to go back out and promote that album ... and then after that ... it's almost time for my next album, so then everything starts over again," Bieber told us. "We've already started , but we're going to be going in every day and working with new people and trying to find the best sound, because I'm going to be recording different styles, different things until I find a solid 15 songs that I love. ... I'm going to be recording as many songs as I possibly can." True Beliebers Send Special Messages To Justin >>> As for the release date for the new album, Bieber doesn't know specifics just yet, but he promised it'll be out "soon ... early next year." For fans seeking a sneak peek at the next step in his musical evolution, they've only got to check out his recent remix of Drake's "Trust Issues." "I loved the song; I thought it was a dope song. I actually cover it in my concert," he said. "I'm going to mature; I'm going to evolve. I don't feel like I'm going to do it too fast or too slow: I'm going to do it at the pace that I feel comfortable doing it." Of course, that's just one direction he's hoping to head in. Because, first and foremost, Bieber said that on his next album, he's looking to create something entirely new, while still maintaining a connection to his past. "I'm trying to create a new sound that people aren't really used to hearing, so it might sound weird at first, but it's going to be like when Justin Timberlake did FutureSex/LoveSounds: It was a new sound ... acoustic guitar over hard drums," he explained. "I want to find something that's going to suit me and my fans are going to love and older people will like and younger people will like. But I'm always trying to keep my core fanbase, because the young people are what make everything cool. Old people look to young people, so trying to keep everyone happy." HGTV, LA and Dining Room Tables

I've been watching a lot of HGTV since coming to LA. My favorite shows are House Hunters and House Hunters International. There's also another show I like to watch called For Rent, but only because it makes me angry. When it comes to apartments/homes, I think living in New York for the past eleven years has made me bitter because there was this whiny broad on For Rent a few nights ago who was looking at a huge place—A HUGE PLACE—and was like, "There's no place for a dining room table..." B*TCH, YOU'RE LUCKY TO GET A KITCHEN IN NEW YORK. I hated her. Now there's some stupid lady on House Hunters who wants a townhouse with a fireplace that she can turn on with a light switch. IT HAS TO BE A LIGHT SWITCH because she doesn't want to bend down and flip a switch on the floor. WHO DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE? Anyway, I know my LA update is WAY overdue (and truth be told I wrote a long one last week but for some reason it didn't save so I lost the whole thing and I was so angry that I just said, "Ah, f*ck it," and closed the computer instead of rewriting) but to give you a quick update, I AM SO HAPPY HERE. I MEAN, I'M REALLY, REALLY HAPPY. And I think living here and watching HGTV—both of these things combined—has made me realize that New York was just beating me down. I mean, the fireplace lady—yes, she's an idiot. But there's nothing wrong with wanting a dining room table. Why did I get so mad at that lady? Since being here, at least once a day I ask myself why I have lived in New York for so long. (It's like I had Stockholm Syndrome or something.) CALIFORNIA IS AWESOME. It's like the promised land. It's sunny all the time and there are birds and flowers everywhere. I have space out here. I have a sofa on the patio out here. I HAVE A SOFA OUTSIDE. I haven't seen one rat since I've been here. But hummingbirds? THEY ZIP BY MY HEAD EVERY DAY. I am so happy. I'm supposed to go back to New York in November, but truth be told, I'm not sure I will.Source: http://www.prettyinthecity.com/blog/2011/7/15/hgtv-la-and-dining-room-tables.htmlJaime Pressly

Michael Jackson Trial Put On Hold Until Wednesday

Judge suspends trial of Dr. Conrad Murray due to a death in key witness' family.By Gil Kaufman Conrad Murray Photo: Pool/ Getty Images After taking the day off Friday just as the prosecution was preparing to wrap up its case, the involuntary manslaughter trial of Michael Jackson's physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, is on hold due to the death of the father of the prosecution's final witness. According to CNN, the Los Angeles Court public information office sent out a notice Sunday explaining that details on the resumption of the trial will be sent out "when further information is available." After two weeks of evidence attempting to portray Murray as negligent and reckless in his care for Jackson, the prosecution was close to wrapping up its part of the case when testimony was suspended Friday to allow final witness Dr. Steven Shafer to travel to a previously scheduled anesthesiology conference in Chicago. But, en route to the conference, Shafer learned that his father had died, and he never made it to the event. Shafer, described as a highly respected anesthesiologist and pharmacologist, was expected to testify about the effects of the surgical anesthetic propofol on the human body. Jackson died as a result of propofol intoxication, and the case against Murray hinges on the prosecution's theory that the cardiologist gave the pop icon a lethal dose of the drug and then provided substandard care when Jackson went into cardiac arrest as a result. The Associated Press reported that the trial will resume Wednesday, after the judge in the case agreed to give the defense more time to prepare their response to tests the coroner's office conducted last week on the level of the sedative lorazepam in Jackson's system. Shafer is also expected to give a key piece of evidence to counter the defense's claim that Jackson self-administered the fatal 25mg dose of propofol through an IV catheter in his leg. After pursuing a strategy in which the defense intended to portray Jackson as having taken the deadly dose of propofol by himself when Murray was out of the room, the doctor's legal team pivoted last week and appeared set on focusing on an allegedly self-administered overdose of lorazepam instead. Once Shafer gives his testimony, the defense will present its case and call an estimated 15 witnesses, which could take the testimony through Friday or next Monday. Beyonce's 'Love On Top' Tease: Five Key Scenes

A nod to New Edition's classic boy band moves is just one of the reasons we can't wait for B's next clip.By Rebecca Thomas Beyoncé in the "Love on Top" music video teaser Photo: Columbia It's only been a week since Beyoncé dropped her frenetic "Countdown" video, but she's already gearing up to hit the eject button on another clip from her 4 album. Some fans got their first taste of "Love on Top" when B debuted it (along with that baby bump!) at the 2011 MTV VMAs. But while she gave the retro-leaning track the doo-wop treatment, sporting a sequined Dolce & Gabbana blazer at the show, she'll revisit another musical era for the video. New Edition's '80s smash "If It Isn't Love" is the clear inspiration in the 82-second tease of Beyoncé's video. And although the superstar has been doing damage control over claims she referenced another artist's work too liberally in her "Countdown" clip, we only want to see more of how B recharged the Boston boy band's classic choreography. Check out how the "Countdown" director dealt with B's "special arrival." Check out our five favorite things from the wisp of a preview, and share yours in the comments section! If It Isn't 'Love on Top' N.E.'s 1988 hit from their album Heart Break is a crazy melodic uptempo ballad with singer Ralph Tresvant tackling the lead. In the super spare clip, casually dressed bandmates Tresvant, Ricky Bell, Ronnie DeVoe, Michael Bivins and — taking over for the newly solo Bobby Brown — Johnny Gill turn a dance rehearsal into a stage-worthy triumph. In the sneak peek, B is backed by five T-shirt-rocking male dancers who help her recreate the quintet's smokin' steps. Even her studio, with its multiple window views, looks like it was shot in the exact same spot. All Hail, King B While B's head gear may call to mind a certain Ugandan dictator among kids who paid attention in AP History, there's only one power this diva exercises in the land of Beyoncéstan: forcing you to dance. If the Shoe Fits Not even pregnancy can keep Beyoncé out of her towering Brian Atwoods. Still, after peeping her in '60s-style ballet flats in the "Countdown" visual, we were just gushing over how the singer paired black nylons and a bodysuit with sneakers. The Ash footwear line's white-soled Biba shoe, to be specific. A new look for B, and we like! Brook Payne, Bring the Pain B and her longtime choreographer Frank Gatson Jr. have traveled far and wide when it comes to seeking dance inspiration for her visuals. For "Run the World (Girls)," for instance, the pair famously sent a search team to Mozambique to track down the African Tofo Tofo dancers whose hard-to-replicate steps (captured in YouTube videos) had hypnotized them. But for "Top," B's team turns to the work of Brook Payne, veteran choreographer for New Edition. Payne makes a cameo and delivers the monologue at the top of the N.E. clip — maybe Gatson will too? When we caught up with the re-formed, six-strong group at the Essence Festival in June, Bobby Brown spoke to MTV News about Payne's mastery and why that footwork has been so often imitated. "It's a lot of things that I'm capable of doing, but New Edition steps, whether you think so or not, they're probably one of the hardest things in dance that you could do," Brown said. The Diva Fan Ahh, the diva fan: From "Crazy in Love" to "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," B seldom hits a video set without it, and it always blows to the left, to the left. What are you hoping for from B's "Love on Top" video? Tell us in the comments! Related Photos Beyonce's 'Love On Top' Tease: Five Key Scenes!

Usher Gets 'Emotional' On David Guetta's 'Without You'

DJ/producer calls their collabo the 'biggest record' on his just-released Nothing but the Beat.By Akshay Bhansali Usher Photo: Todd Williamson/ WireImage David Guetta recently told MTV News that the Usher collabo "Without You" is the "biggest record" on his just-released Nothing but the Beat. It's a rather bold statement, considering his latest album also features Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, will.i.am, Akon, Timbaland, Nicki Minaj and Jennifer Hudson, just to name a few. But Guetta has a soft spot for the cinematic team-up with Ush, which he says is equal parts sentimental and hands-in-the-air euphoric. "It's just totally emotional," Guetta said. "Some of the record is a proper ballad, and then it goes to that crazy dance beat. It's perfect for him, because he's famous for his ballads. And he's also now famous for those big club records that he comes with. He's an amazing dancer, so I felt like he was the artist that I needed." Usher and Guetta first previewed the song in Ibiza, Spain, earlier this summer, with the crowd demanding an encore performance of the sure-to-be-hit song. "It was amazing," Guetta gushed. "We were not supposed to do this. I always do these kinds of stupid things, playing records when I'm not supposed to play them. And Usher was so excited for this time to be in Ibiza performing in front of those people. He called me onstage and said, 'Come on. Let's do it.' So we did it, and, yeah, they loved it. We had to do it again! They asked for one more." For some, the combination of Usher and Guetta might seem out of left field. While the DJ/producer works with a variety of artists, he has a pretty tight-knit musical family — but it may come as a surprise that Guetta has known Usher the longest. "I actually speak very often about how thankful I am to will.i.am because he called me to produce 'I Gotta Feeling'; Akon, when we started to work together, because I wasn't famous in America; Kelly Rowland and all those guys that came to me when I was not known yet," Guetta said. "But I have to say that the very first time when someone big from America asked me if I want to work with him, it was Usher. Like, a really long time ago, but we never had the time to do it. So I was so happy to be finally in the studio with him, because he spotted me when I was really not famous yet." Usher and Guetta already shot the video for "Without You" in Ibiza. The song will follow up Guetta's current single, "Little Bad Girl," which features Ludacris and Taio Cruz. How Do 'In Time' Stars Make The Most Of Their Time?

We ask Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried and more how they avoid wasting time at the DMV, on a plane and more.By Kara Warner Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried in "In Time" Photo: 20th Century Fox Hey, Justin Timberlake fans: You can now celebrate your favorite triple threat's return to the big screen via the new sci-fi thriller "In Time." The film is set in the not-so-distant future in a society that lives and dies according to how much time you have and can acquire. In this world, time is literally money, and when your time runs out, you die. In the spirit of making the most of time, although in not quite as serious a manner as is portrayed in the film, when MTV News caught up with the cast of "In Time," we asked a series of rapid-fire questions pegged to getting the most out of everyday scenarios: "How do you make the most of your time, when ... " 1. On a plane? "Oh, I like to read or do crossword puzzles," said Vincent Kartheiser, whom "Mad Men" fans will recognize as bad guy Pete Campbell. "I sleep, normally," Amanda Seyfried said, "but audio books or knit." 2. On hold with customer service? "When the comes back, I like to completely change voices," Timberlake revealed, changing his voice into a deep, serious baritone. " 'Hey, I'd like to speak to your supervisor,' and then , 'Hey, man, listen, I had a problem,' " he play-acted for us. "I put on speaker and get some work done," Matt Bomer said. 3. God forbid, when the Internet goes down? "You should read a book," Bomer advised of this worst-case scenario. "Maybe the newspaper, get caught up on current events." Seyfried told us she's trying to cut down her Internet use. "It gets to be time consuming, so when the Internet goes down, you just have to read the newspaper," she said. 4. When waiting at the DMV? "Power through," Bomer advised of the always-long lines at the Department of Motor Vehicles. "Whatever you can get done. Sudoku, Maybe?" "There's always one person who's like, 'I hate this place! I'm never coming back!' " Kartheiser said. "Google whatever the state legal limit is for blood alcohol concentration, because that's usually why I'm there," Timberlake added with a laugh. Justin Bieber, Drake, More: When Hip-Hop Goes Pop

With collabos between Lil Wayne and Joe Jonas, Taylor Swift and T.I., the lines separating music genres are increasingly becoming blurred.By Jocelyn Vena Drake and Justin Bieber Photo: Jag Gundu/ Getty Images In a modern music landscape where genre is pretty much nonexistent, the lines are becoming even further blurred. That's why music lovers barely flinched when news broke that Justin Bieber will work with Kanye West and his "homey" Drake on his next album. However, more than a decade ago, major mainstream artists like Britney Spears or even *NSYNC (whose very own Justin Timberlake later went on to work with hip-hoppers) would never have thought about hooking up with rappers like Eminem, for instance. In fact, they were the punch line to many of Em's finest rhymes during the "TRL" era. Today, pop stars and rap stars are unapologetically sharing their love for one another. Lil Wayne, who recently worked with artists including Joe Jonas and Jennifer Lopez, seems to be one of the guys leading the charge. In addition to appearing on tracks with pop stars, Demi Lovato's and Bieber's covers of his track "How to Love" have made headlines. So, what is it about Weezy? "I just loved the way that Lil Wayne took a risk doing the song 'How to Love,' " Lovato explained. "And when I really listened to it, it's such a great song." That enthusiasm for his work, according to Vibe Music Editor John Kennedy, has a lot to do with Weezy "the man" as well as Weezy "the artist." "Wayne appeals to the pop world because he's obviously got a tremendous following and is a talented artist, but he's a character outside of the music. His image off-wax is just as prominent as his rhymes on record," he explained. "So when you get Wayne on a record, it's more than just a hot 16, you're getting a rebel to society: the sagging denims, tats all over, diamond grills. It just adds rock star flavor with hip-hop appeal." "On an artistic level, he just seems like an exciting guy to be around who is also willing to try just about everything, so I imagine pop stars can basically say, 'Hey, can you do this weird thing?' and he'd say yes," Entertainment Weekly staff writer Kyle Anderson added about Wayne's appeal. "From a more business standpoint, working with Wayne not only means chart and radio recognition but also instant cool. He has a cachet that hasn't faded yet." But Wayne is hardly the only guy in the game defying the laws of hip-hop and pop. Country superstar Taylor Swift has certainly done her part, appearing in concert with guys like T.I. and B.o.B. "I'm a huge hip-hop fan, and it's been so amazing to have so many incredible artists come out and to get to sing the hooks on their songs that I've been blasting in my car for the last couple years," she explained. "It's been awesome. I couldn't have asked for more amazing special guests on this tour, and we're not finished yet." But it's not just the pop stars singing the praises of rappers and hoping to get some street cred. Rappers are clamoring to hook up with their pop counterparts too, picking up where artists like Mariah Carey/O.D.B. and Christina Aguilera/Redman left off. And recently, Aguilera's former pop rival, Spears, jumped on the trend when she toured with Nicki Minaj. When MTV News caught up with Minaj backstage on the Femme Fatale Tour, she said that the crossover success has been intriguing and surprising. "I'm always surprised," she said. "I don't really expect them to know all the records, but I guess it just kind of transcends all genres of music at this point." As the genre-bending continues, it seems that the pairings are likely to get more and more unexpected. "I met Justin back in February. He's a cool kid and sh--," Tyler, the Creator said of his desire to work with the teen star. "When I got in there, he was talkin' about the 'Yonkers' video and sh--. It was weird, because I was sitting here starstruck, like, 'Oh, f---, it's Bieber. He's asking me questions.' I'm like, 'Shut the f--- up so I can talk to you.' " What do you think of the pop/ hip-hop crossover? Tell us in the comments. Britney Spears Boyfriend's 'Criminal' Role 'A Challenge'

Chris Marrs Piliero opens up to MTV News about working with non-actor Jason Trawick in new video.By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf Jason Trawick and Britney Spears in "Criminal" Photo: Jive Britney Spears certainly had everyone talking when she dropped her steamy "Criminal" video. Sure, fans were talking about the sex and gunplay, but they were also going bananas over the appearance of Brit's real-life boyfriend, Jason Trawick, who plays her criminally handsome beau in the clip. The idea to include Trawick in the video was all Britney's, but director Chris Marrs Piliero wasn't sure he was so into it. "When she first hit me up, she had a basic story in mind, and she actually always originally planned to have Jason, her boyfriend, play the role, and I wasn't super stoked on that idea at first, actually," he told MTV News. Most of his reservations were because Trawick isn't a professional actor and he wasn't sure his rookie acting skills would translate well in the mini-movie. "I wanted to make a really rad, epic video, and I definitely got the sense from her she wanted something really cool," he explained. "And in my mind, I was just thinking then, 'We really should not be using your boyfriend; we should get an actor.' So, I mean, I didn't say that, but in the back of my mind, I'm like, 'I don't like this idea at all.' " Trawick and his abs, however, managed to impress Piliero — and Britney loyalists everywhere. "At the end of the day, Jason killed it. That was one of those things I was really stoked , as much as I went into it like, 'Wow, he's not an actor. This is going to be interesting,' but I really do like a challenge, and I really do like the idea that I'm a director and my job is to direct and get the performance. For me, it was a fun challenge to be like, 'I'm gonna make sure that you are awesome,' and he was." Piliero also worked with Spears on her video for "I Wanna Go," and he was once again dazzled by her sassy acting skills. "Of course, Britney was rad," he said. "She does a good job at nailing and doing the little acting thing. She's cool at it." What did you think of the "Criminal" video? Share your reviews in the comments! Britney Spears' 'Criminal' Director Talks Gun Controversy

'It blew me away that members of Parliament were speaking about this,' Chris Marrs Piliero tells MTV News.By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf Britney Spears and Jason Trawick on the set of her "Criminal" video shoot Photo: Eagle Eyes / Splash News When Britney Spears hit London to shoot her "Criminal" video, she caused quite a stir. The singer immediately was criticized by local officials for her use of a gun in the sexy, crime-fantasy clip. Spears addressed the issue, shrugging off the controversy, and this week, fans finally got to see what all the fuss was about when the steamy clip dropped. MTV News spoke to the video's director, Chris Marrs Piliero, who said he was surprised the video's gunplay became such a big deal. "Holding the gun became a controversial thing 'cause we filmed it in London, and they don't have a lot of gun use out there," he explained. "That doesn't mean that there's no gun use, so I did find it really interesting. For me, the thing is, it blew me away that members of Parliament were speaking about this. One, because it's a music video, and two, because don't you guys have television shows out there that show crime? "It's really strange to me," he continued, adding just what bothered him most about the controversy: "I don't understand why pop stars are put on such a high pedestal over other celebrities. Why do members of Parliament feel that they need to scrutinize her for having a gun, and 'She's in the public,' and 'She should know better,' and 'She's a role model,' but what about every other celebrity out there? What about every other actor? That's very strange to me. I was really surprised at how much the gun use was scrutinized." Plus, Piliero said it makes sense that the couple, played by Britney and her real-life boyfriend, Jason Trawick, are using guns. "He's a professional criminal, so it makes sense he has a gun," the director said. "We shouldn't censor ourselves." Share your opinion on the controversy in the comments below!
