Javaris Crittenton, Former NBA Guard, Charged with Murder
Javaris Crittenton, a former standout at Georgia Tech and the Washington Wizards player who got into a gun standoff with Gilbert Arenas in 2009, has been charged with murder. Javaris Crittenton News Report Police spokesman Carlos Campos tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that cops have obtained an warrant for the arrest of Crittenton in relation to the shooting death of 22-year-old Jullian Jones on August 19. At this time, Crittenton is NOT in custody. Jones was a mother of four who was killed when shots were fired by someone inside a dark SUV, police say. They believe she was in the wrong place at the wrong time and the intended target was a man who robbed Crittenton in April. "He planned to shoot the person who robbed him and missed," a source tells ESPN. Police have identified the SUV as a vehicle that Crittenton had rented for a family member and the FBI is involved in the case. Crittenton averaged 5.3 points and 1.8 assists in 113 NBA games. Britney Spears Is 'Epitome Of Pop,' Says Demi Lovato
Demi tells MTV News why she's looking forward to Britney's VMA tribute.By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: MTV News Britney Spears is set to get the tribute treatment this Sunday at the 2011 Video Music Awards. At 29, she may be younger than your typical awards show tribute subject, but looking back at Brit's catalog of great videos and memorable VMA moments, we think she deserves it. As part of the new generation of pop stars following in Britney's footsteps, Demi Lovato is pretty excited to see how the icon will be honored on Sunday night. "Who isn't a Britney Spears fan?" Lovato asked, just days before the show goes live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. "My favorite Britney Spears song is 'I Wanna Go,' 'cause it's the latest song that she has and I love it." Go behind the scenes as Britney films her 2011 VMA promo. Since Spears first took the VMA stage back in 1999, alongside 'NSYNC, she's managed to rack up five performances and take home four Moonmen, the first of which was back in 2008, over 11 years after her first appearance on the show. At this year's show, she's up for two awards for her video for "Till The World Ends," Best Pop Video and Best Choreography. Demi has a simpler reason for a Britney tribute: " 'Cause she's the ultimate pop star; nobody can touch her," Lovato said. "She's been around for such a long time now and she's the epitome of pop. So when I think of pop music, I think of her." While Demi is gushing about Brit's long pop career, she's poised to launch the next phase of her own. She will drop her album Unbroken next month. Nicki Minaj 'Raises The Bar' On Britney Spears Tour
'I wanted my set to be more than an opening act, 'cause, you know, I did that already,' she tells MTV News of Femme Fatale Tour.By Jocelyn Vena Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News Nicki Minaj is known for her brightly colored persona, music and wardrobe, so it's no surprise that the New York rapper has managed to win over pop audiences night after night on the Femme Fatale Tour, during which she fiercely graces the stage before Britney Spears. Minaj's high-octane energy and ability to put a pop spin on her hip-hop tracks shines through in her warm-up show. Her theater-kid side also comes out in the multi-media set, complete with dance routines, videos and Minaj's many alter egos. The ability for a pop audience to identify with Minaj's sometimes NSFW themes is even a shock to the head Barbie herself. "Yeah, I'm always surprised," she told MTV News. "I don't really expect them to know all the records, but I guess it just kind of transcends all genres of music at this point." Minaj set out to give her fans, both old and new, a spectacle. "I wanted my set to be more than an opening act, 'cause, you know, I did that already," she said, referring to her opening gig alongside mentor Lil Wayne on the I Am Still Music Tour. "I always like to raise the bar for myself, and that's what I did. I think it's important to give people what they paid for." In addition to a set full of fan favorites that are earning her more and more Barbies each and every night, Minaj also has multiple costume changes that are sexy, cool and tough all at the same time. "I didn't want to do a lot of color. I sort of wanted to tone it down and sort of bring the color back from my own tour, so I wanted it to be very sophisticated and sort of, you know, futuristic and all over the place," she said. 'Me and my gay best friend just danced until 8 a.m.,' Ke$ha tells MTV News.By Jocelyn Vena Audrina Patridge Photo: MTV News It's prom season, and that means high schoolers across this great land will be renting tuxes, buying fancy dresses and negotiating the details of their curfews with parents. So, before you take your pictures and get in your limos, we asked some Hollywood A-listers to recall their fondest prom memories. "I had a great prom," Ne-Yo told MTV News. "I didn't get to go with who I wanted to go with. I got my second choice, but my second choice turned out to be the one I was supposed to be there with, so it turned out good." Ke$ha, never one to say no to a party, had the best night of all her friends. "I went to prom with my gay best friend, and let me tell you, I had way more fun than anybody else at a prom with their boyfriends," she recalled. "Everybody else was, like, crying and drama and breaking up, and me and my gay best friend just danced until 8 a.m." "Hellcats" star Aly Michalka doesn't have a favorite prom memory — because she never went to prom. "I was homeschooled, so I don't even think we had a fake prom," she lamented. "Like, maybe we had a home-school prom and I wasn't invited?" While everything always seems to be in peril on "The Vampire Diaries," star Nina Dobrev had a less tumultuous night: "Having everyone get together and such a final celebration ." Romeo went big for his prom. "My senior prom, I remember I pulled up in my red Ferrari. I was feeling like James Bond," he said. "And it was one of the best nights of my life." "My favorite prom memory was probably going shopping for a dress, and our boyfriends at the time dressed up as 'Dumb & Dumber,' " Audrina Patridge laughed. "And so we were like, 'We can't dress up dorky ... we have to look good.' " Roots drummer ?uestlove made a big decision on the night of his prom: "June 2, 1989, was my very last haircut; prom haircut, totally butchered my hair. He butchered my hair, and I vowed never again to ever get in a barber chair, so I grew that Afro on my prom night." Adam Lambert said his prom date was a 10, so he definitely had a fun night. "I had a great prom. I had an awesome time," he said. "I went with one of my best friends in high school. Her name was Lauren, and she was really hot. Katy Perry, who touches down in Boise, Idaho, this weekend as part of her California Dreams Tour, tweeted her condolences, writing, "RIP Amy Winehouse. May she finally find peace." Nicki Minaj, who is also on the road as part of Britney Spears' Femme Fatale jaunt, took to Twitter and expressed disbelief at the news of Winehouse's passing. "Please tell me Amy Winehouse didn't die," wrote the Young Money MC, who's set to hit the stage in Florida on Saturday (July 23). "Is this some sick joke?" "I am genuinely heartbroken about this," wrote Rihanna, who continued to express her shock over multiple tweets. "Dear God have mercy!!! I am SICK about this right now!" In another, she wrote "U made a MAJAH impression on this industry and throughout the world, in such a short space of time...too short!" Usher reflected on Winehouse, who he had known: "I'm so sad to hear the horrible news of Amy Winehouse's death. I'm so happy I knew you Amy...Rest Well. Gone Too Soon...we'll miss you!!"" Frequent tweeter Kim Kardashian used her 140 characters to send prayers: "I just heard the news that Amy Winehouse passed away. What a true talent. I pray she's in a better place & at peace." Winehouse's American record label, Universal Republic, said in a statement: "We are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of such a gifted musician, artist and performer.
